RE: [ha-Safran]: Chromatic Haggadah
Full citation: Polychrome Historical Haggadah for Passover, Haggadah Me-ir Ay-nai-yim by Jacob Freedman. It was published by the Jacob Freedman Liturgy Research Foundation, Springfield, Massachusetts, 1974. A friend of mine bought a used copy a couple of years ago from one of the online used booksellers, I think. Good luck to whoever is looking for it. [Ha-Safran] Need Logo
Hi. I need a copy of the AJL logo in TIFF or EPS format, because that is what my print shop is requesting. Where can I get this? Also, does anyone have a good quality image of the Sydney Taylor Book Award seal? I've tried taking digital pictures and scanning one, but it never seems to come out very good. Thanks! [Ha-Safran] Israeli public libraries
For safranim in Israel (from another listserv): Why is there no investment in local public libraries, except in the large cities? Do public libraries offer use of computers and Internet access? The last time I used the Tel Aviv public library, they certainly didn't. Yes, I know, there's no money, etc. But some rich Jew somewhere has got to be interested in enriching public libraries in Israel. In Israeli schools, do they teach kids how to do research at the library? Do they encourage kids to use public libraries, or at least point out their existence? Re: [ha-Safran]: October Librarian's Lobby mea culpea
Yisrael Dubitsky of JTSA Library wrote to me about my last Librarian's Lobby. I seem to have not checked my facts carefully. I implied that the first Hebrew Bible was printed in 1488. This is not correct. Also the Koren Tanakh is based on multiple sources, not just the Leningrad Codex. I have corrected my column. These mistakes do not change my thesis -- Libraries need manuscripts, early printed editions, and contemporary Hebrew Bibles. Thanks to Yisrael and others who made comments on the column. [Ha-Safran] HTC Press
Dear Safranim: A teacher here has asked for a book published by HTC Press. Does anyone have an address for them, and do you know if they put out a catalogue of their publications? Thanks in advance. [Ha-Safran] cataloguing problem Jewish personalities
Shalom Safranim and Shana Tova, I personally use the Encyclopedia Ivrit as my reference. It does not use the names of the books, but gives the name to be used ...in the Index. It is very often a first name. You can try the names of the books and they will refer you. The Encyclopedia Judaica is a good choice if you need English. I would also have a list of the nicknames and the actual names available. I am working on one. When I finish I can send you one in Hebrew, if you would like. All the best.
