re [ha-Safran]: Sephardim
Because I am going to Spain later this spring, I have been seeking information online about the Jews in Spain. A source that should answer these questions is : Chaya's Sephardic World, in which the writer has adopted the persona of a Jewish woman in medieval times. I no longer have the source, and therefore can't provide the URL, but it can be located by typing Jews + Spain into a search engine. I am truly pleased that I have been able to provide an answer on this list. Rita A. [ha-Safran]: Book on Everyday (Domestic) American Jewish Life c. 1918
Can anybody recommend a book that describes everyday domestic Jewish (home) life in America, c. 1918? I'd like to know what roles Jewish men and women played in the home. For example, did Jewish men partake in domestic life (like washing dishes, folding laundry)? Thanks if anybody can help. RE: [ha-Safran]: Request for book
Ruth Gruber and Miriam Bat-Ami have books on the subject. Bat-Ami's book is called Two Suns in the Sky and it is a fine novel for young people.Ruth Gruber's book is for adults and it is called Haven. Re: [ha-Safran]: Request for book
I think the book you want is Two Suns in the Sky by Miriam Bat-Ami. It is a teen novel told in two voices and is a good picture of the relationship of the camp and the town. The year the book came out, I mounted a library program at Sinai Temple featuring Bat-Ami and four of the children who had lived at Oswego and were then residents of Los Angeles. Bat-Ami was a somewhat pedantic speaker, but the panel of kids was terrific and they all thought she had written an excellent portrayal of the lives they remembered. Re: [ha-Safran]: Request for book
I don't know if the book, Haven, about WWII Jewish refugees brought to America, is what the original questioner was looking for, but I just wanted to note that there was a TV movie a while ago based on this book, which might be available on video or DVD. -Stanley Nachamie [EMAIL PROTECTED] (212) 316-0033 Authority Control Librarian (currently on leave) City University of New York Minyanim Coordinator AJL NYC Convention 2004 P.S.
