[ha-Safran]: Weine question

2004-09-01 Thread Andrea Rapp
What Weine number do people use for books about the
fate of non-Jewish groups who were persecuted by the
Nazis? Also, what subject headings and subheadings are
used? Is the heading Holocaust reserved for Jewish
victims only?

[ha-Safran]: AJL needs questions and volunteers for FAQs

2004-09-01 Thread Yossi Galron
--- Message requiring your approval --
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: [ha-Safran]: AJL needs questions and volunteers for FAQs
AJL is embarking on a project to put FAQs (frequently asked questions and
their answers) on its website. We need your help in 3 areas.

We are looking for:
1.Questions you think are shared by many people in Judaica librarianship
2.Volunteers who will answer those questions
3.Volunteers who will review the answers
Questions can be general ones or cover topics specific to either SSC or to
research libraries. Once we have a working set of questions, we will be in
touch with the volunteers who have indicated their willingness to write a
response.

As a first step, we’re asking you to submit your questions and/or
indicate your willingness to participate as a writer or reviewer to Diane
Romm at [EMAIL PROTECTED] by October 15, 2004.

Thanks in advance for your help in making this valuable contribution to the
knowledge base of our profession.

[ha-Safran]: Ideas for 350 years of Jewish Life in America

2004-09-01 Thread Lori Amchin
I am putting together a family book group series. I want to choose 3
books, historical fiction, each one set in a different century, to cover
the three hundred fifty years of Jewish life in America. I would have
chosen Out of Many Waters by Jacqueline Greene, but the age of our readers
may be too young (about 9-10 year olds). Does anyone know of another book
that is set in the same time period? (Last year we read More Precious Than
Gold, which was a great beginning to this series.)
Thanks!
Lori Amchin
