RE: [ha-Safran]: FASCICLES:Megilloth at the BHQ
You need to consult a catalog of the Wuertembergische Bibelanstalt in Stuttgart. I recently received a paper copy of their catalog, and am almost certain I saw it featured there, but have since passed on the catalog to someone else, and so cannot check it. I assume they have a website, but have not been able to bring it up with various permutations of the above name. All I get are bibliographies listing Hebrew Bible editions and study tools. [ha-Safran]: New Hebrew publication
Please find here by attachment a short description of my new publication. I would appreciate if you will advertized it. Dr. Abraham David Hebrew publication Historyon be-Saa'rot Ruho The Irascible Historian New Light on the personality of the Sixteenth Century Chronicler Joseph Ha-Kohen from his personal Correspondence, Edited with notes and an introduction by Abraham David, Jerusalem, Beit David, 2004, 106 pages. $20.00 (including postage). These letters of the famous historian Koseph Hakohen, author of 'Emek Ha-Bakhah, cover only a short span of his life, some fifteen years in the mid 16nth century. Nonetheless, they disclose much of his inner world. Joseph Ha-Kohen's life was filled with pain and anguish. Within the span of 10 years he buried three of his sons, along with other close relatives, after as he suffered exile from his home-town of Genoa, sending him on an itinerant path across northern Italy. His bitter and restless experiences must have influenced his fiery and irascible manner in his interpersonal relationships. He appears to be temperate, and easily upset when his letters are not answered in time. He bore a grudge against his rivals, even those who were closely related to him, like his sister Clara and brother Todros. He spare no words even to the most respected sages of his time, such as R. Meir Katznelbogen (Maharam Padova). We find here, substantial background for understanding the personality of the historian, within the context of his experiences and social position, that are likely to have influenced his historiographic view. Dr. Abraham David, has been an Historian and Senior Researcher at the Jewish National and University Library in Jerusalem for over thirty years. His primary field of research is Hebrew Manuscripts of the middle ages. His expertise is in the Jewish Historiography and the early Jewish re-settlement of the Land of Israel in the Mameluke and early Ottoman periods. He has published books and numerous articles on this topic, including the publication of documents and chronicles of the era. --- Dr. Abraham David The Jewish National and University Library (JNUL) Hebrew University Edmond J.
