[ha-Safran]: Can anyone help?

2005-05-10 Thread Yeshivah Secondary Library
A patron is looking for a book, but can't remember the title. She thinks
it has three words. "The man". From her memory it is set in World War
2 about a young boy who happened to be Jewish and became pope. She said it
was excellent.Any ideas?

[ha-Safran]: Missing title pages

2005-05-10 Thread Heidi G. Lerner
Dear Safranim,
I am trying to catalog a 2 part work from Wittenberg, 1562.
The title page from part 2 reads:
Secundus libellus Ebreae Grammatices complectens observationes ... .
The author is Johanne Avena [Johann Habermann].
I am missing the title page and several initial pages from part 1.
If any library has this volume and can fax or scan me the first few pages,I
would be most appreciative. I have found this work in several German
libraries but not in any American libraries. I may not be searching
correctly in OCLC or RLIN.
I have found in RLIN editions for 1570 and 1575 .
Thank you,
Heidi Lerner

[ha-Safran]: Reading incentive programs

2005-05-10 Thread Andrea Rapp
I, too, think my message to ha-safran got lost.
I am interested in learning about reading incentive
programs for grades 4-6 in Jewish schools (i.e. for
Jewish-content books).
In my move to a new job I seem to have lost the file
I was collecting on these things; I remember someone
once described a BINGO card program for different
genres, for example. If anyone is willing to share
specific programs, please email or send to

2005-05-10 Thread Library
I am looking to replace our library's missing copy of a Hebrew teaching kit
(booklet and audiocassette) by Menahem Mansoor called "Listen & Learn

[ha-Safran]: Children's publisher

2005-05-10 Thread Shulamis Landesman
A friend is looking for a children's publisher who would be interested in
publishing interactive books (pop-up, talking, etc.). As the technology is
expensive to produce she is finding that many publishers don't want to
spend the money.

[ha-Safran]: Canadian Jewish Book Award for Children's Literature

2005-05-10 Thread Linda Silver
What a pleasure it is to congratulate Anne Dublin on her most recent
honor. Bobbie Rosenfeld: The Olympian Who Could Do Everything (Second
Story Press, 2004) is the recipient of the Canadian Jewish Book Award for
Children's Literature. Besides being a talented author and librarian of
Toronto's Holy Blossom Temple, Anne is the vice-president of SSC so we are
all very proud of her and her achievements!

[ha-Safran]: Library book spacers

2005-05-10 Thread Susan Fried
Hi !
My name is Susan Fried and I'm a part-time librarian in Connecticut.
We recently discarded all of our wire book supports due to their hazardous
nature (they tend to pop out). I'm currently looking for book supports
that are functunial and easy on the eyes. If I can use them as shelf
markers as well, that would be very helpful.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Susan

[ha-Safran] library fees

2005-05-10 Thread Library
Dear Hasafran friends-

I sent this request last week, but I think perhaps it didn't get through,
so I will try again. (If this is a duplicate, please forgive me.)

I am the director of a Dept. of Jewish Education Library. We are located
in a JCC but are entirely funded by the DJE. We serve the entire Greater
New Haven community, both Jewish and secular. Due to the near-crisis
financial situation of our DJE (and of all our communal Jewish
institutions), our new DJE Director has suggested we begin to charge for
library services, possible an annual membership fee.

Are any of you out there working in DJE or BJE libraries that charge for
services? If so, I would like to please hear from you as to:
* what you charge
* how it works
* did it affect usage when you started to charge/
On the other hand, can those of you who DON'T charge help me formulate
answers to my new Director and lay leadership to explain why charging to
use the library would not be a good idea?

Thanks for your help!
