[ha-Safran]: Author David Zeller available for appearances in 2006

2006-02-01 Thread Stuart Schnee
David Zeller is one of my favorite storytellers.

Jack Canfield, co-creator of the New York Times best-selling Chicken Soup
for the Soul(r) series

Author, singer and educator Rabbi David Zeller is available for events in
March, June, August and late October/November 2006.

David will be focusing on his new book The Soul of The Story: Meetings with
Remarkable People (ISBN 1580232728 ) which was published recently by Jewish
Lights. Thoughtful and endearing, provocative and witty, the book is filled
delightful stories which recall David's meetings with the likes of Carl
Jung, Shlomo Carlebach, Alan Watts, Sri Pad Baba, the Mother (Sri Aurobindo
Ashram), Carlos Castaneda and many others, well known and unknown and the
experiences and teachings that ultimately allowed him to rediscover his own
spiritual heritage. (please see
http://davidzeller.org/book for more info).

David has developed an international reputation as a musician, lecturer, and
workshop leader in Jewish mysticism, spirituality and meditation, as well as
in transpersonal psychology (the psychology of body, emotion, mind, and
soul). Whether he is singing or teaching, David's work focuses on touching
the heart as much as the mind and his quiet presence informs his
presentations with a unique power.

[ha-Safran]: Roommate for AJL convention

2006-02-01 Thread Stanley Nachamie
I know this might seem a little early, but the
Cambridge convention chair didn't think so, and I was
concerned about the limited number of rooms available
at the convention rate.

I am looking for a male, non-smoking roommate for the
AJL convention hotel.
Because of a prior commitment, I won't be able to
arrive at the convention before Monday morning, June
19, but will be staying until the end of the
convention on Wednesday, June 21, so will need to stay
in the hotel on Monday and Tuesday nights.

The way the hotel registration website is designed, it
would seem that a person who will be staying for
Sunday night as well should make the reservation, and
then either directly or through the hotel I would pay
for the nights I would be staying.

Thank you.

[ha-Safran]: Tu B'Shvat (The New Year for Trees) on the J

Hi Everyone!

Tu B'Shvat, the New Year for Trees, falls on the 15th of the
Hebrew month of Shvat, February 13 this year (5766 / 2006).
This Jewish mini-holiday is of major importance to our
appreciation of Nature and our relationship to it.

The J Site - Jewish Education and Entertainment
http://www.j.co.il

has several entertaining features to celebrate Tu B'Shvat:

Jewish Trivia Quiz: Tu B'Shvat

Which fruit is used to make wine ?
When did Kabbalists originate the Tu B'shvat Seder ?
How many glasses of wine are drunk at the Tu B'Shvat seder ?
What branch of a tree did the dove bring back after the flood ?
How many days does the Hebrew month of Shvat have ?
What is associated with both Chanukah and Tu B'Shvat ?
In Israel, what happens to trees starting on the 15th of Shvat ?
Since 1901, how many trees has the Jewish National Fund
planted in Israel ?
According to the Torah, which fruits did the spies bring to the
children of Israel in the wilderness ?

The above questions are examples from the multiple choice
Flash quiz. There are two levels of questions, two timer settings.
Both kids and adults will find it enjoyable.

Tu B'Shvat Clipart
Whether you need a picture for your child's class project,
a graphic for your synagogue, Hillel or JCC Tu B'Shvat
announcement, the Jewish Clipart Database has the pictures
for you. You can copy, save and print the graphics in
three different sizes.

Multilingual Word Search Game: Tu B'Shvat
Enter the Multilingual Word Search game and choose the
language you would like to play in: English, Hebrew or
Russian. There is an easy mode for the kids and a harder
mode for us big kids. Each game is randomly generated.
You can even print out a blank game (and the solution page) for
offline playing.

Multilingual Hangman - Tu B'Shvat
It's the classic Hangman game recreated in an online Flash version.
If you expect your simple "hang the man by the rope" drawing then
you are in for a surprise. The game can be played in English or
Hebrew.

My Hebrew Song Book - Tu B'Shvat Hebrew songs (with vowels)
for viewing and printing. All songs are in graphic format so you
do not need Hebrew installed to view or print them.

The J site has something for everyone, but if that is not
enough, I posted on my website 54 links about Tu B'Shvat,
from history and customs to graphics and recipes.
Site languages include English, Hebrew, Russian, Spanish,
French, Portuguese and German
The web address is:

http://www.jr.co.il/hotsites/j-hdaytu.htm

Please forward this message to relatives and friends,
so they may benefit from these holiday resources.

Enjoy!
Jacob

being a portal, with links to news and sources. (Disclosure: I helped

When Enid says something I listen. So I went to Heidi Estrin's podcast and
listened. It was not good. It was GREAT. I loved it. I agree with whomever said
that this is taking librarianship to the next level. Also, have you all checked
out the web page of Heidi's sinagoga? It's light and airy with
substance. I felt
like I was floating on something that wasn't going to sink. I am
suddenly smitten
with the need to revamp the whole La Javura web page and start a little podcast
blog in spanish.
