2006-02-12 Thread Liz Edelglass
Have any of you bought (or read) the new Vikram Seth book Two
Lives? Is it appropriate for a Judaic library?

2006-02-12 Thread Beila Organic
To the collective source of biblio-info:

Is there a written set of standards, criteria, etc. which apply to
insuring a library? If not, what suggestions or recommendations can
you make from your experience?

Todah rabbah!

[ha-Safran]: AJL Convention in Cambridge, MA!

2006-02-12 Thread Ann Abrams
Dear safranim,

On behalf of the New England planning committee, we are looking
forward to welcoming you to Cambridge (which is across the Charles
River from Boston), for the 2006 AJL convention, June 18-21! It is
certainly long overdue that there be a conference in the Boston area
(the last one in Massachusetts was 1977 in Waltham, and 1967 in
Boston), and we are proud and excited to be your hosts.

We're very happy to announce that the registration materials are now
posted on our website, thanks to webmaster Nancy Sack! You will
also be receiving these materials along with the February newsletter,
thanks to Nancy, and Libby White. And, our program committe is
working very hard to post in the next couple of weeks a preliminary
program on the website, so, stay tuned!

As all of you know, who have either worked on a convention or
attended one, everyone on the local planning committee is a
volunteer, with many of us also working at full or part-time
jobs. I'm mentioning this to preface an appeal: PLEASE do your best
to send in your registration materials in a timely manner. And, if
you're planning to stay at the convention hotel (Hyatt Regency -
please make reservations through the link on the AJL website), please
make your reservations soon. We have a block of rooms guaranteed for
the convention dates; however, Boston is a busy place this time of
year, and we've recently learned that the Hyatt is booked the few
days preceding our convention. One of our planning committee members
will soon be posting a list of accomodations on the website, with
thought given to those requiring synagogues in walking distance
and/or kosher food. We are also in the process of coordinating
Shabbat home hospitality.

Greater Boston and New England are wonderful places to visit in
June. In future postings, those of us who live here will make
suggestions about how to spend your time, if you are able to be a
tourist for some of your visit. In the meantime, you can start your
own research (you are librarians, after all!) by going to
www.shalomboston.com for the Jewish
sites, and http://www.bostonusa.com/ for
the general tourist info.

We look forward to saying "Bruchim Ha-baim" to you in June!

[ha-Safran]: Verb Root and Infinitive added to Learn Hebrew Verbs

2006-02-12 Thread Jacob Richman
Hi Everyone!

User feedback to the launch of Learn Hebrew Verbs
http://www.hebrew-verbs.co.il
has been very good. The site has generated the largest
amount of launch feedback than any of my other sites.

One of the repeated suggestions that visitors have asked for
is to add the verb root and infinitive to the database. As of today,
I added the root and infinitive to all 300 verbs.
The English and Hebrew menus have been changed to
include these choices.

Feedback is welcome.

Please forward this message to anyone that may be interested
in learning Hebrew. Thank you!

Shavua Tov / Have a good week,
Jacob

[HaSafran] Which book on Munich to buy?

2006-02-12 Thread Janice Levine
With all the controversy now about the film "Munich" wanted to buy a
book for my synagogue library. Which one do people recommend- there is
"Massacre in Munich: The Manhunt for the Killers Behind the
1972 Olympics Massacre" by, Michael Bar-Zohar
"Vengeance: The True Story of an Isareali Counter-Terrorist
Team" by, George Jonas AND
"Striking Back: The 1972 Munich Olympics Massacre and
Israel's Deadly Response" by, Aaron J. Klein

Thanks for your feedback! Thanks for the feedback a few weeks ago
