[ha-Safran]: Digitized RaSHI at the JNUL
Today (May 7, 2006) the Jewish National and University Library opens an exhibit RaSHI - Teacher of Israel (Raban SHel Yisrael) featuring manuscripts and printed books from the library's collections. The exhibit commemorates the 900th anniversary of the death of RaSHI. A digital version of the exhibit (Hebrew and English) has been prepared as part of the JNUL's Treasures of the Library series of the David and Fela Shapell Family Digitization Project and is accessible via the JNUL website: http://jnul.huji.ac.il Many of the manuscripts and books displayed have also been digitized in their entirety and are accessible via the exhibit site. The digitized printed books are also incorporated in the JNUL's Digitized Books Repository and the JNUL catalog. -- Elhanan # # Elhanan Adler # # Deputy Director for Information Technology# # Jewish National and University Library# # P.O.B. 39105, Jerusalem 91390, Israel # # Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] # # Tel.: 972-2-6585005, FAX: 972-2-6511771, Home tel.: 972-2-6515977 # # Mobile tel.: 972-54-6829657 # # Messages and opinions expressed on Hasafran are those of the individual author and are not necessarily endorsed by the AJL === Submissions for Ha-Safran, send to: Hasafran @ lists.acs.ohio-state.edu SUBscribing, SIGNOFF commands send to: Listproc @ lists.acs.ohio-state.edu Questions, problems, complaints, compliments;-) send to: galron.1 @ osu.edu Ha-Safran Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/hasafran%40lists.acs.ohio-state.edu/maillist.html AJL HomePage http://www.JewishLibraries.org
[ha-Safran]: Sifria Bnai Torah (Kest-Leibowitz Library) Closing Sale
The Kest-Leibowitz Library was founded in Jerusalem 15 years by Rav Yehuda Leibowitz as an expression of his tremendous Ahavat Sefer (love of Jewish books). In this short period he reprinted more than 1000 rare books and many original works in inexpensive hardcover or pocket editions. Not only did he revive many important and classic works in Jewish scholarship but he also made these available at cost price to the general public. Rav Yehuda Z'l passed away three years ago and sadly there is no one to continue his lifework. A portion of the very large stock of tens of thousands of volumes was sold this month at a public sale in Jerusalem and the remaining stock will be liquidated shortly. This is the LAST CHANCE to buy these special books at these low prices ! http://www.virtualgeula.com/kestwww.virtualgeula.com/kest A minimum order is 100 shekels for all orders. All purchases must be via credit card. All orders must be submitted before May 25. Deliveries will begin June 1. [ha-Safran]: Requesting book recommendation
I am in search of a text on the subject of Interfaith Marriage and Assimilation. The book is to be added to our shul library in memory of a Board member's late wife. The subject of Jews marrying 'outside the faith' had been a very big concern to her. Our shul is traditional. I would appreciate any recommendations. Many of these concepts are applicable to the indexing of electronic resources, including Web sites. Both manual and computer-assisted techniques are discussed. Prerequisite: LIS 204 or LIS 203. One graduate credit. Objectives Students will develop a working understanding of: - the principles of book indexing - the criteria for evaluation of book indexes - the effect of various index formats and cross-reference structures on the usability of indexes - the advantages of alphabetico-specific indexes to individual Web sites over taxonomies and keyword search capabilities. Credit The course may be taken either for one graduate credit at regular tuition rates or for 15 hours of Professional Development Credit for $282. Professor The course will be taught by Dr. Bella Hass Weinberg, a Past President of the American Society of Indexers, former Chair of its Indexer Education Committee, and the 1998 recipient of its Hines Award for distinguished service to the profession. Dr. Weinberg has compiled several highly praised book indexes and consults on the design of large-scale indexing and thesaurus projects. She has reviewed national and international standards related to indexing and has published extensively on indexing theory. Her thorough knowledge of the literature is reflected in her anthology, Can You Recommend a Good Book on Indexing?: Collected Reviews on the Organization of Information (Information Today, 1998). Dr. Weinberg also teaches information architecture and consults on the interfaces to bibliographic databases and thesauri.
