Re: [ha-Safran] Hanukkah

2006-11-22 Thread Sheri Weisz
Perpetualpreschool.com has lessons and activities for toddlers:
http://www.perpetualpreschool.com/holiday_themes/jewish/hanukkah.htm

CAJE (Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education) has lesson
plans. If you haven't already checked them out, they have a wealth
of material, although some of it is pretty old. When I was teaching
Hebrew school and nursery school I often found lessons and ideas I
could adapt to the needs of my class. The website is at:
http://www.caje.org/

These other sites also have activities geared to children:

Aish.com at http://www.aish.com/chanukahfamily/
Chabad.org at http://www.chabad.org/holidays/chanukah/default.asp

Have fun!

2006-11-22 Thread Andrea Rapp
I sepnt part of this morning listening to Heidi's podcasts on her
blogspot website.
The interviews are just great, and I learned a lot about history (the
origin of Jewish Book Month) ,about websites, (such as
planetesme.com), books and authors.
I plan to inform our temple members about The Book of Life.

Shalom.

Regarding Ms. Rapp's query, I am unfamiliar with this work but asked
a colleague at our library, who is our collection development
librarian for the Middle East, about it. He wrote me (and I send
this along with his permission), The book... is the translation of a
French work and is definitely tendentious, favoring the Palestinian
perspective.

[ha-Safran]: Jewish Encyclopedia, Circa 1901

2006-11-22 Thread Rich Stiebel
Does anyone know what the “fair market price” is for the 12 volume
set of The Jewish Encyclopedia, published by Funk Wagnalls Company,
Isidore Singer editor? Volume One was published in 1901. Each
volume is over 2 inches (about 5 cm) thick.

If you do not know the “fair market price”, is there some place where
I can look that up?

Thanks
