[ha-Safran]: World War II Navy veteran

2008-04-14 Thread Anna Olswanger
I'd like to ask your help as librarians. I'm writing a book with a
World War II reference, and I am researching the role of a torpedo
officer on a Navy destroyer. Does anyone know of a World War II
veteran still living who might have served on a destroyer and could
describe for me the duties of a torpedo officer, where he was on the
ship, especially in relation to the gun director?

I would be grateful if anyone could put me in touch with a v

Re: [ha-Safran]: Subject heading

2008-04-14 Thread Heidi G. Lerner
Dear Margot,

I encourage you to go consider establishing the disengagement from
Gaza as a subject heading as Aaron suggests.

If your institution is not an independent PCC member and thus not a
member of SACO, may I recommend that your institution join the
Judaica SACO Funnel. We would welcome the contributions from the
Simon Wiesenthal Center of which I am sure that there could be
potentially many unique and important subject heading contributions
from which we could all benefit and use.

If you do consider joining the funnel please feel free to contact me
and I can outline the steps for you. You can also take a look at the
SACO website at http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/saco/saco.html.

Thank you,
Heidi G. Lerner (Coordinator, Judaica SACO Funnel)

[ha-Safran]: Passover Products: Digitized Historical Documents

2008-04-14 Thread elhanan
The dietary laws and customs connected with the Passover holiday are
numerous, varied and often the source of fierce disagreement.

The Jewish National and University Library Collection contains many
broadsides and other original documents relating to Passover questions
such as: kashrut of various products, machine matza vs. hand matza,
eating of 'kitniyot' (by Ashkenazim) in times of distress, etc.

The Library's David and Fela Shapell Family Digitization Project is
pleased to make an annotated selection of these digitized documents, from
8 different countries and in 5 languages, available for viewing at:

http://jnul.huji.ac.il/heb/pessah/

The site is in Hebrew.

The files include:
- The Computer Engineer's Haggadah
- The Dr. Seuss 4 questions
- An Adam Sandler Passover
- Seder Pickup Lines
- Halachik Issues for Peisach
- Exodus of the 3 Stooges
- Passover Story by The New York Times
- Passover Song (tune of Hotel California)
- Passover Songs (Beatles Paradoy)
- The Plague Song (tune of This Old Man)
- Pharaoh, Pharaoh (tune of Louie, Louie)
- Pesach Macarena (tune of Macarena)
- Those Were the Plagues (tune of Those Were the Days)
- The Ten Plagues (tune of Adams Family)

  and many more...

Enjoy!
Happy Passover,
Jacob
