Re: [ha-Safran]: Index to reviews

2010-02-24 Thread Sara Rofofsky Marcus
Bernice,
There are two currently in print: from 1978-1990 and from
1990-1995. I am currently working on an index from 1978 to the
present, with hopes of it becoming available within the next year,
format to be determined by AJL.

[ha-Safran]: Black over White

2010-02-24 Thread Ruth Diskin
music that transcends borders

BLACK OVER WHITE

A film by Tomer Heymann

Doc 49 min

Sacred texts and indigenous tunes are at the core of Israeli musician
Idan Reichel incredible music. His project –as he calls it, is made
up of musicians from diverse traditions. In this wonderful
documentary we follow the Idan Reichel Project as they travel to
Ethiopia to perform. But the journey is more than just a concert tour
– two of the group's main singers are originally from Ethiopia and
their voyage is full of personal stories and encounters.

The film raises questions about identity and seeks to reawaken the
pain of immigration, which is still there even after so many years,
rekindling the authenticity and bond to the place that will exist
forever in their minds and hearts.

Already screened at numerous festivals such as the San Francisco
Jewish Film Festival, Denver Jewish Film Festival as well as The New
York Sephardic Film Festival, BLACK OVER WHITE is highly recommended.
For updated information, please check:
http://www.ruthfilms.com/black-over-white.html

We are proud to offer it to University Libraries for the price of
$300 and $115 for Public Libraries. Prices do not include shipping
and handling.

Looking forward to hearing from you

Are you looking for the text of the law (I've recall some passing by me,
as I catalog all Israeli law at LC, and we have the best collection
outside of Israel), and while none of the books were in Hebrew (I just
checked), one can probably find a unofficial translation of the statute.
Note that severance pay (as opposed to the American style
unemployment insurance) is probably the rule in most other
countries. --Aaron

Re: [ha-Safran]: Severance pay

2010-02-24 Thread Aaron Kuperman
You are looking for Severance Pay in Mishpat Ivri?

There is nothing in LC's data base on severance pay (I checked for
severance with either Mishpat Ivri or Jewish law in the record), but
there are several books in Hebrew with the heading Wages (Jewish law).
LC also has a book on severance pay applicable to Jews in Mandatory
Palestine, which might discuss Mishpat Ivri aspects. Otherwise you will
want general English language material on Jewish laws pertaining to labor
and employment (LCSH: Labor laws and legislation (Jewish law), three LC
records in English). Note that in general, employment can be terminated
by either party at any time absent an express agreement or statute to the
contrary. --Aaron

[ha-Safran]: Index to AJL Newsletter Book Reviews

2010-02-24 Thread Deborah Stern
Bernice Lieberman asked: Is there an on-line or print index to
reviews from the AJL newsletter?

Here is the answer:

1) One of our colleagues is working on this and we hope it will
be ready soon.

2) In the meantime, you can access back issues of the Newsletter
since the end of Dec 2007 on the AJL website at:
http://www.jewishlibraries.org/ajlweb/publications/newsletter.htm.
They are in pdf format and can be searched.

3) If you subscribe to the Index to Jewish Periodicals on CD or
online through Ebsco, it indexes the Newsletter, although it's now full-text.
