[ha-Safran]: Triangle Shirtwaist Fire and Librarians

2011-03-03 Thread myjewishbooks
http://rememberthetrianglefire.org/

Fellow safaranim:

I was reading about the 100th anniversary of the fire and upcoming
televised films (HBO, PBS), and came across this comprehensive
website that lists several nationwide events, many at libraries, some
at theaters, to commemorate the tragic fire's centennial

L. Mark
MyJewishBooks.com

PS http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/01/triangle/ I was
reading this week's NYT story on the visit to the cemetery where many
of the Jewish victims were buried.

But the comments by some readers who found the kaddish for just the
Jewish victims to be offensive were so outrageous!

[ha-Safran]: Movie Rights Query

2011-03-03 Thread Etta D. Gold
Greetings Colleagues, I have been showing an Israeli movie once a
month in the adult area of our library. That part of the library is
often used as a classroom, and we always follow the movie with much
discussion. There is no charge for attending these sessions. These
are movies that have been legitimately purchased either through a
distributer (with full knowledge of its potential use) or through a
commercial vendor. In some cases extra fees have been paid at the
time of purchase to the distributer who makes it known that an extra
fee is required.
Have any of you done something similar, shown a movie that was
purchased commercially with the assumption that all the rules were
followed, but were contacted later and required to pay a screening fee?

Etta

[ha-Safran]: Educational and Fun Resources for Purim

2011-03-03 Thread Jacob Richman
Hi Everyone!

Purim, the fun-filled Jewish holiday, falls on the
14th of the Hebrew month of Adar. This year Purim
begins Saturday night March 19, 2011.
(In Jerusalem it starts Sunday night March 20)

The following resources will help you appreciate and
enjoy the holiday.

The Jewish Trivia Quiz
http://www.jewish-trivia.com

Purim Trivia
Why do people eat poppy seeds on Purim ?
 >From what tribe was Mordecai ?
Why was Haman angry at Mordechai ?
Who was queen of Persia before Esther ?
Esther had another name, what was it ?
How many times is Haman's name mentioned in the megillah ?
What did the king do when he couldn't sleep ?
What does the word "Esther" mean ?
How many advisors did king Achashverosh have ?

The above questions are examples from the multiple choice
Flash quiz. There are two levels of questions, two timer settings.
Both kids and adults will find it enjoyable.

Free Purim Clipart
http://www.jewish-clipart.com

Whether you need a picture to attach to your "Mishloach Manot",
a picture for your child's class project, a graphic for your
synagogue, Hillel or JCC Purim announcement, the Jewish Clipart
Database has the pictures for you.
You can copy, save and print the graphics in three different sizes.

My Hebrew Songbook - Purim Songs
http://www.my-hebrew-songbook.com

Enter the songbook and choose the category Purim.
You can view any song online or create printed song sheets
with several songs together for a sing along. All Hebrew is
graphic so you do not need Hebrew support to view or print
the songs. All songs include Hebrew nikud (vowels).

Purim Humor Files
http://www.jr.co.il/humor/purim.htm
Worth printing several to entertain your guests at the
Purim Seudah (festive meal).

My Jewish Coloring Book - Purim
http://www.my-jewish-games.com
Kids love to color, need I say more.

Purim Videos on YouTube
http://www.jr.co.il/videos/purim-videos.htm
65 videos ranging from Purim Speils to funny gags.

To learn more about Purim, I posted on my website
80 site links, ranging from from laws and customs to games and
recipes. Site languages include English, Hebrew, Russian,
Spanish, French, Portuguese and German.

All 80 links have been reviewed / checked this week.
The web address is:

http://www.jr.co.il/hotsites/j-hdaypu.htm

Feedback is welcome.

Please forward this message to relatives and friends,
so they may benefit from these holiday resources. Thanks!

Enjoy!

An early Happy Purim!
Jacob
