2007-01-18 Thread Monica Rosenfeld
The book The Printer is a very nice story about a child whose deaf father
is a printer that saves everyone from a fire. It has beautiful
illustrations, and might be worthwhile. The author is Myron Uhlberg.

1)I recently read an account of the meeting of Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch
and Reb Yisroel Salanter. Saloman Plessner was mentioned favorably.I have
only been able to find a few works in German at rare book dealers.I would be
interested in finding any works in Hebrew or translated to English or
Hebrew. I would also be interested in any books, theses,or articles dealing
with Saloman Plessner.

2)Rosenbloom's works on Samuel David Luzzatto provide a thourough discussion
of the background, goals, and context of Luzzatto's work. I would be
interested in any books, theses,or articles that provide a critique or
evaluation of Luzzatto's work. I would be particularly interested in
something written from the viewpoint of Orthodox thought-be it anywhere on
the Modern Orthodox to Chareidi spectrum.

RE: [ha-Safran]: Shabbat Holiday books - recommendations needed

2006-06-15 Thread Monica Rosenfeld
Barbara,

You might want to include flannel board sets for your Holiday/Shabbat Kits.
Kids really seem to enjoy them. You can make your own or buy them from a
place such as Benny's Educational Toys. I find them very helpful and use
them for storytelling, fingerplay, etc.

[ha-Safran]: Rosen Publishing

2005-09-16 Thread Monica Rosenfeld
I was appalled to see that Rosen Publishing has a series entitled Middle
East Leaders. The leaders in this series are
Anwar Sadat, Ayatollah Khomeini, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Osama bin Laden,
Saddam Hussein, and Yasser Arafat.

In the past I have noticed that their Holocaust Biography series is
dedicated to far more Nazis than victims.

What is the appropriate response in this case?

Dear Safranim,

I am looking for the original Hebrew book Eyes To See : Recovering Ethical
Torah Principles Lost In The Holocaust by Rabbi Yom Tov Schwartz. In
Hebrew it
is called Einayim Lirot. I have found it all over in English, but none of the
sources I have tried could find it in Hebrew. Biegeleisen didn't think they had
it. I would really appreciate some help in locating it.

[ha-Safran]: Graduation Gifts

2005-03-15 Thread Monica Rosenfeld
Our director has asked me to select a book that would be suitable for our
graduating Hebrew School students. This is usually some coffee-table type
book. I was thinking about something commmemorating the 350th anniversary of
Jews in America. Are there any suggestions? We do have a limited budget, but
usually receive a substantial discount from BT.

[ha-Safran]: Book in question

2005-01-06 Thread Monica Rosenfeld
Dear Safranim,

I have received one of those questions which librarians dread. It begins
something like this: Do you know about this red book? I don't know the title,
but I remember it was redThe novel in question has some Jewish
content
(possibly Biblical) and tells a story of a girl and a prince. The patron
believes it was published quite awhile ago, and it is a torrid romance. It is
very long, about six hundred pages. Does this sound familiar to anyone? It is
not The Red Tent. I would appreciate any information, since offhand I don't
recognize this. By the way, the book really is reddish-orange.

Thanks.
