RE: [ha-Safran]: Special Needs Books
The book The Printer is a very nice story about a child whose deaf father is a printer that saves everyone from a fire. It has beautiful illustrations, and might be worthwhile. The author is Myron Uhlberg. Saloman Plessner was mentioned favorably.I have only been able to find a few works in German at rare book dealers.I would be interested in finding any works in Hebrew or translated to English or Hebrew. I would also be interested in any books, theses,or articles dealing with Saloman Plessner. 2)Rosenbloom's works on Samuel David Luzzatto provide a thourough discussion of the background, goals, and context of Luzzatto's work. I would be interested in any books, theses,or articles that provide a critique or evaluation of Luzzatto's work. I would be particularly interested in something written from the viewpoint of Orthodox thought-be it anywhere on the Modern Orthodox to Chareidi spectrum. RE: [ha-Safran]: Shabbat Holiday books - recommendations needed
Barbara, You might want to include flannel board sets for your Holiday/Shabbat Kits. Kids really seem to enjoy them. You can make your own or buy them from a place such as Benny's Educational Toys. [ha-Safran]: Rosen Publishing
I was appalled to see that Rosen Publishing has a series entitled Middle East Leaders. The leaders in this series are Anwar Sadat, Ayatollah Khomeini, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, and Yasser Arafat. In the past I have noticed that their Holocaust Biography series is dedicated to far more Nazis than victims. What is the appropriate response in this case? [ha-Safran]: Book in question
Dear Safranim, I have received one of those questions which librarians dread. It begins something like this: Do you know about this red book? I don't know the title, but I remember it was redThe novel in question has some Jewish content (possibly Biblical) and tells a story of a girl and a prince. The patron believes it was published quite awhile ago, and it is a torrid romance. It is very long, about six hundred pages. Does this sound familiar to anyone? It is not The Red Tent. I would appreciate any information, since offhand I don't recognize this. By the way, the book really is reddish-orange. Thanks.
