Re: [ha-Safran]: Kids' resources on Mishnaic sages

2006-10-26 Thread Barbara Karp
I know of two titles.
Our People by Jacobs Isaacs. 6 volumes. Brooklyn: Merkos L'Inyonei
Chinuch (c1985).
Volume 4 covers the period of the Tannaim, and includes biographical
sketches and
their teachings.
In OUr Fathers' Ways by Menachem Gerlitz. Volume 1: Tannaim and
Amoraim. Jerusalem: Oraysoh Publishers (c1980).
Lengthy chapters are devoted to individuals and their teachings.

Unfortunately, these titles may not be in print.

I hope this helps you.

[ha-Safran]: Kids' resources on Mishnaic sages

2006-10-25 Thread Marga Hirsch
A 5th grade Judaic studies teacher is going to have her students -
working in teams - study some of the major Tanna'im, most likely some
but not all of Hillel, Akiba, Yohanan ben Zakkai, Elazar ben Azariah,
Tarfon, Rabban Gamliel II, Yehudah ha-Nasi. They will be presenting
their work in a variety of formats, e.g., a report, a skit, a mock
newspaper article. I'm compiling resources for them, and most of what
I find is aimed at adults. Can anyone recommend sources - written,
recorded, online, etc. - at a 5th grade or even middle school level?

Of course the teacher told me about this today, and the kids are
starting the project tomorrow, so I'd love to hear from you sooner
rather than later. Thanks in advance!

Marga
