Recipes from the Bride Who Knew Nothing

QUICK & KOSHER: Recipes From The Bride Who Knew Nothing (Feldheim
Publishers; November 2007) is the hilarious story of Jamie Geller, a
spunky young exec who came into marriage and kosher cooking without
knowing a spatula from a saucepan. Determined to master cooking yet
short on time, she was dismayed to find that most cookbooks consider
an hour of preparation time "quick," and presumed more culinary skill
than many of us in fact have. So Jamie set out to compile her own
special collection of quick and easy recipesrecipes with
step-by-step instructions requiring no more than 15 minutes to
preparethat would deliver scrumptious, eye-catching, satisfying
meals to impress her family and friends.

QUICK & KOSHER is the result of her quest, a one-of-a-kind cookbook
with more than 160 recipes and 120 full-color photos that will prove
invaluable not only to culinary novices but also experienced cooks
who love Kosher food. Among the many mouthwatering recipes include:
Charif. Charif is the Hebrew word for sharpand, boy, does this dip
have a kick. But that's the beauty of preparing a dish like this from
scratch. You can make it mild or burning hot and serve it along with
warm pita bread.

Griz Galuska. Farina dumplings are the Hungarian version of matzoh
balls. A wonderful addition to chicken, beef, or tomato soup, they
are so tasty that you may make them part of your regular culinary repertoire.

Chilean Sea Bass in Honeyed Pecan Sauce. The candied pecans combined
with honey and soy sauce provide a pleasant contrast to this tender fish.

Speedy Coq Au Vin. To save her newly married son from starvation,
Jamie's mother-in-law showed up one day to lend a hand. This was the
first dish they made together. It was a huge hit. Thanks to Jamie,
you can make it in half the time it originally took her mother-in-law
and herand it's every bit as good as the original recipe.

Creamy Ziti. This is the Geller dish that made her and her husband
famous in the neighborhood. It's a quick prep, but it lasts long in
people's memories.

Chocolate Chip Cheese Cake. Delicious and versatile. If you want, you
can transform it into a into a chocolate swirl cheesecake with just a
squirt of chocolate syrup and the swirl of a spatula. Not big on
chocolate? Just omit the chips and it's a classic cheesecake.

Today, Jamie is an accomplished cook who presents every dish with
professional flair. And she never compromises her 15-minute time
limit in the process. In fact, most recipes require less than 10
minutes before they are popped into the oven, set atop the stove or
served directly to your hungry, eager guests!

Several special sections such as "Setting Up Your Kitchen," "Secrets
of the 15-Minute Chef" and "Shopping Like an Expert" are the result
of extensive insider interviews with food professionals who helped to
facilitate her path to culinary mastery. These sections offer
practical answers to the questions you've always wanted to ask: how
to buy meat, fish, produce, groceries, and wine. Moreover, every
recipe page is a study in simplicity, with tips and techniques,
clearly stated prep times, and reliable cooking times.

For the seasoned cook, this book offers a trove of great ideas and
fabulous shortcuts. Reflecting the sophisticated global tastes of
today's cooks, recipes range from traditional to exotic, and are well
indexed and cross-referenced. Suggested variations and presentations
raise basic recipes to higher levels and encourage creative
experimentation. In addition to foolproof recipes, you will find
information on Jewish customs and holidays, complete with menus for
all of the religious holidays, and advice on pairing wines with
various dishes. Yet unlike any other cookbook, Jamie prefaces every
section with her own uproarious tale – told with such contemporary
wit and warmth that you'll want to read it aloud to others!

Is this a cookbook? An autobiography? A kitchen handbook for brides? Yes.

It is all of these and more, for Quick & Kosher will amuse, inspire –
and teach even skilled cooks a thing or two.
