RE: [ha-Safran]: Cantillation
Virtual Cantor is by far the finest website of its type I've seen or used. Josh Sharfman, while not a chazan is a fabulous ba'al tefilla and has built an extremely valuable resource for all interested in being shelichei tzibbur. Re: [ha-Safran]: Cantillation
The tone given to the cantillation marks by Mizrahi Jewish people is also worth to consider. Does anyone know who was the first to propose tones for these symbols in the massoretic text? Have ever been any other proposals about the purpose of what we consider cantillation marks? I am doing a research paper on Kohelet and I am proposing a different tone. In our tradition we do not chant Kohelet during Sukkot as Ashkenazim do, but if the book is chanted in Sukkot I am proposing other possibilities. If anyone would like the research document I can forward a copy. It is around 65 pages. It deals with canonization, oral tradition origin and aural design of Kohelet.
