The author is Naomi Ragen. "The Sacrifice of Tamar" is the title about the Orthodox woman raped by an African-American man. Other titles are "Sotah" and "Jephte's Daughter." Dear Ms. Leonard, The books of which you speak are about the Haredi Community and I enjoyed them immensely, although not everyone agrees with my assessment. They are written by Naomi Ragen (who has her own web site at: http://www.NaomiRagen.com. The book about the abusive husband is called "Jephte's Daughter" and the one about the rape is called "The Sacrifice of Tamar." You might also want to try "Sotah" about a woman "accused" of adultery and "The Ghost of Hannah Mendes" about a Sephardic woman who fears the loss of her heritage.
