At 04:40 PM 11/6/2008, Dina Tanners wrote: I have a group of pen and ink drawings by the Israeli artist David that I want to donate to a local group. They would like to know something about the artist. Each drawing is from a different book of the bible, all from KETUVIM (Writings), JONAH, RUTH, ECCLISIASTES, ETC. Does anyone know what I am talking about and can tell me about the artist. A google search has not been fruitful. This sounds like the drawings made by Ismar David for the JPS The Five Megilloth and Jonah. Here's a reference to a book about him: The Work of Ismar David By Helen Brandshaft, David Pankow; Contributor Helen Brandshaft Published by RIT Cary Graphic Arts Press, 2005 ISBN 0975965123, 9780975965122 Here is a web site with a brief biography: http://www.rogallery.com/David_Ismar/david-biography.html I hope this helps. It sounds like you have prints of the illustrations for the JPS volume of the Five Megillot and Jonah. Try googling "Ismar David." You'll find a good deal about him.
