THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF CUBA - HISTORY AND MEMORY is a mosaic of oral histories
that reconstruct the history of a small Jewish community created in the
tropical island in the margins of the Jewish immigration to the United States.
Through personal testimonies the reader is exposed to processes of migration,
to struggles against economic difficulties and political upheavals, to the
paradoxical role of Cuba as a country that rejected the St. Louis passengers,
but granted temporary shelter to thousands of refugees during the Holocaust, to
the Zionist conquest of the community and to the traumatic expulsion from the
Cuban Paradise following the Castro revolution.
