[ha-Safran] Post a librarian job

2015-07-21 Thread Jeff Hoffman
I'm hoping this is the proper way to post a part-time, academic, library
job. Knowledge of Jewish Studies/Hebrew would be a plus.

Am I correct?

[ha-Safran] (no subject)

2015-07-21 Thread Kathe Pinchuck
Esteemed Colleagues:

I am helping someone organize a small (less than 5,000 items) private lending
library. We need a simple program that can do the following:

- Handle title and patron information in Hebrew;
- create bar codes;
- ability to code certain materials as restricted (for example, one new book
per checkout)
- generate reports including shelf list, overdue books, expired memberships

ResourceMate seems to be a good choice, but if anyone is happy using a
different software, I'd love to hear about your experience. Also, converting to
a computer-based system will be challenging, so ease of use is a priority.

Thank you very much,
Chava Pinchuck__

Re: [ha-Safran] (no subject)

2015-07-21 Thread Yosef Branse
Shalom,

I don't know what to make of this volume (*Mishpacht Kobo Rabbaneiah
u'Gvireiah*) . Numerous free copies were sent to our library, addressed to
members of the staff from various departments, including people with no
obvious connection to acquisitions, cataloging or Judaica. The librarian in
charge of donations was hard put to find people to take the copies, and
some will eventually be left by the library entrance for anyone willing and
able to lift this weighty tome.
It is clearly a very comprehensive and well-designed volume, but the
massive, indiscriminate distribution suggests some sort of well-funded
"vanity press" venture. I've never heard of the Kobo rabbinic dynasty, but
there are several items in our catalog by authors bearing that name.
If anyone knows about the Kobo dynasty, or the circumstances surrounding
this publication, I'm curious to hear more.

Best wishes,
Yosef Branse
