Re: [ha-Safran] Online ideas for library promotion

2016-08-11 Thread Shmookler, Cecile
If you don’t have an online catalogue, and you think you may want one, consider
using LibraryThing (Librarything.com) and LibraryThing’s new online
cataloguing software for small libraries, called “tinycat.”

Depending on the size of your library, these are free, or very minimal amounts
of money.

Subject: [ha-Safran] Online ideas for library promotion

Dear Hasafranim,

For various reasons, I've been looking into ways to promote my library online.
The library is included on our synagogue website, but, to be frank, it's an
awful website, maintained by volunteers and intermittently updated. Besides,
the religious schools from the 2 shuls in our town have merged, making the
library more of a community library than ever and I'd like to capitalize on
that.

What about a separate website? What about a facebook page with a blog? I know,
a lot of work, but if I don't do this, I'm worried the library will die a slow
death.

Believe it or not, my 15 yr old daughter is planning a whole "marketing
campaign" for the library with Instagram and twitter and snapchat and all the
things 15 yr olds do (I'm very clueless about all this), which is so wonderful,
but I'm unsure what works and doesn't. Anyone have experience managing your own
promotion? Oh, by the way, I have no money to spend.

Thanks,

Rachel Haus

If you have an online catalog, you can use it as a “portal.” The shul website
should have a link to your catalog, at the very least!
