[ha-Safran] Elazar questions, general and specific

2018-06-06 Thread Fred Isaac
My regret over Rachel Glasser's retirement is also professional. She and
Rita Frischer were the editors of the 2nd edition of the Elazar
classification.

With her retirement, is there a current AJL authority for questions related
to books?

With that in mind, I just purchased Naomi Levy's *Einstein and the
Rabbi. * Looking
through it, it feels like a self-help book, wrapped in several story lines.

Does anyone else have it (just published)? If so, where are you putting it
in the classification?

[ha-Safran] Photos of the Jerusalem Book Fair

2018-06-06 Thread Jacob Richman
Hi Everyone!

Today, I went to the opening of the Jerusalem Book Fair at The First Station.
It was fun and I always get a kick out of seeing the popular English books that
were translated into Hebrew. The Hebrew Disney titles always make me smile.
I took photos and posted them online at:
https://history-of-israel.co.il/jerusalem/2018/jer555.htm

I also uploaded the photos to a Facebook album at:
https://bit.ly/jer-book-fair-2018-fb

Enjoy the photos.

FYI - The Jerusalem book fair started tonight and will continue
till June 16. Admission is free and there is free entertainment for the kids.
Please share. Thank you!

Have a good night,
Jacob

[ha-Safran] Free Emergency Training Webinar

2018-06-06 Thread Jacqueline Benefraim
*Shalom!*

*If you missed my emergency training presentation at AJL's conference in
Houston, you can attend a FREE webinar at Connecting to Collections, a part
of IMLS, on their website. I've pasted their invitation below.*

Please excuse cross postings.

Have you had an emergency that involved your collection? Were your
colleagues trained and ready to respond? After it was over, did you look at
your response? If so, how did you record what you learned? What changes did
you make to improve your emergency response in the future? This webinar
will help you to make sure your Emergency Plan is a living document by
focusing on learning opportunities both before and after emergencies:
training and after-action reviews. We will provide ideas for training all
staff who work with heritage collections and we’ll discuss how to debrief
after actual emergencies to learn from them in the most effective way.
Staying in “learning mode” most of the time enables your emergency team to
respond competently and creatively when an emergency occurs.

Check out our webinar on June 13th, 2:00-3:30 EDT

*Live and Learn: Collections Emergency Lessons and Training* https://www.
connectingtocollections.org/live-and-learn/

It's Free!

*Hope you never need to use this information,*

Dear colleagues.
Over the years I had many opportunities to meet Rachel. Rachel is a
professional and conscientious person. I thank her on behalf of AJL members as
well as the present and past Council members and committee chairs for years of
volunteering for AJL.
I saddens me to read of another school library that is not appreciated.
In the past few weeks I have received several calls for a need for library
advocacy task force and, especially, for day schools. It is my goal the
dedicate energy when I end my term as AJL President, to work on this important
issue.

Re: [ha-Safran] Facebooking the conference

2018-06-06 Thread Michelle Chesner
Or, if you're a Twitter user (or Instagram or whatever social media is your
go-to), we're using #AJLBoston18 there as well! AJL is @JewishLibraries on
Twitter.

Re: [ha-Safran] I am retiring!!

2018-06-06 Thread Noreen Wachs
Dear Rachel,
You have been a wonderful professional colleague to all of us. Enjoy your well-
deserved retirement. I am so sorry to hear that Yavneh is not replacing you
with a librarian.
All the best,
Noreen Wachs

Subject: [ha-Safran] I am retiring!!

Dear Colleagues,
I want to share with all of you that I am retiring as librarian at Yavneh
Academy in Paramus, NJ as of the end of this school year. I have been here for
22 years and worked in the field for over 35 years. This decision is totally
my choice, and I am excited to plan the next part of my life which will include
taking classes, volunteer work, learning, more family and grandchildren time,
and AJL.
Sadly, the school is not replacing me with a professional. The technology
department will be absorbing the library space and program, although it has
become quite clear that it will not be continuing in anywhere near a similar
way. It saddens me that our excellent, current, and expansive collection of
Judaica and general studies will probably fade away. Many teachers have
approached me to express their disappointment in the school's decision. As
seems to be in many cases, I don't think the administration realizes how
important the role of the library is in our educational process.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the conference in Boston since
school ends on June 20. It is important to me to finish my job and leave in
the right way.
Thank you all for your help over the years, your encouragement and ideas, and
your ongoing support. I look forward to continuing to work with AJL and all of
you, a very special group of colleagues and friends.

[ha-Safran] Facebooking the conference

2018-06-06 Thread Heidi Rabinowitz
Hello Friends,
If you helped me Facebook the AJL conference in the past, or if you want to
give it a whirl this year, please consider doing so for #AJLBoston18! It's
quite easy if you're a regular Facebook user. Please email me at
bookoflifepodc...@gmail.com to volunteer and I'll get you set up.

Thanks
