[ha-Safran] Cool Jewish apps

2018-10-04 Thread Ann Abrams via Hasafran
Thank you to all who sent me suggestions!

And, since I was asked by many to share what was sent to me, here you go:

ובלכתך בדרך
ך which for those who are interested is a free compendium of everything
they could want -- in Hebrew. It has English as an option

Sefaria

Hebrew on Duolingo

Kosher GPS,

(Didn't know what it was called): An app that is a timer you can set from
the time you finish eating something fleishig. It counts down and rings
when you can eat dairy

“Wake Up World” and it’s free, teaching about Jewish holidays, and the fun
part is where you get to use your phone microphone to sound like a shofar
by blowing into it and it is quite fun. It is very easy to figure out how
to “blow the shofar”! (although you do need to practice…)

[ha-Safran] genealogy

2018-10-04 Thread Aileen Grossberg via Hasafran
I've been asked to provide some resources for a teacher in our religious
school-grades 5-7- on genealogy. He also asked for material on Sephardic
genealogy.

I have found almost nothing in print for the age group and online sources are
pretty sophisticated.

Any ideas would be helpful.
TIA

[ha-Safran] Electronic subscriptions

2018-10-04 Thread Daniel Stuhlman via Hasafran
Does anyone have an electronic subscription for the library to Forward or
HaAfetz? So far the representatives I have dealt with seem to never heard
of a library wanting to subscribe.

[ha-Safran] Cool Jewish apps

2018-10-04 Thread Ann Abrams via Hasafran
Dear safranim,

I'm teaching a one-session class, for older adults, called "Appy Hour,"
where I'll present a few apps that may be of interest, and folks will share
theirs (not necessarily ones related to Jewish topics) .

I"m wondering if anyone has come across a particularly cool Jewish app?
If yes, I'd be grateful if you'd let me know about it by this Sunday - (the
class is on Tuesday).

Thanks, as always!

Ann
