Re: online haggadot:
Just found this in today's email from our rabbi (Rabbi Jaymee Alpert,
Congregation Beth David, Saratoga, CA)--

If you are interested in creating your own haggadah,
https://www.haggadot.com/ is an excellent resource. In addition, there are
several free haggadot available for download, including:
https://www.haggadahsrus.com/ADN-classic.html and

I have had a request from a Jewish studies teacher whether there are any online
Haggadahs students can read. Apart from Sefaria, can any of you recommend any
resources?

Thanks,

It's a non-profit, make your own haggadah site, but I
believe they have templates for those who just want a haggadah without the
personalization. I can't tell you much more, but it sounds worth exploring.

[ha-Safran] Fw: (Judaica Europeana 2.0 Content Partners) 📢 Announcing Yahad.net (+help needed)

2020-04-02 Thread Naomi Steinberger via Hasafran
Dear Colleagues,

I am sharing this, and seeking your help in finding a few more Haggadot for
this extremely creative project.

Please respond directly to Pavel Katz at the Jewish Heritage Network. He is
cc.ed on this email.

Wishing you all a meaningful Pesah,

Naomi

Dear all.

As you know well, our sector is coping in creative ways with the crisis. In the
last two weeks we have created a new way for people to convene - virtually -
for Passover eve, while reading together very special Haggadot shared by
members of our network.

Please visit the project at yahad.net.

There are two (urgent!) calls for action:

  1. Please circulate as broadly as possible to your network! We'd like many
people to be aware of the service to be able to enjoy the engaging Haggadoth
from our partners.

  2. We are still looking for more Haggadoth to be included in the service
(currently, it features 8 Haggadot from JTSA, NLI, JML and GUF, in Hebrew,
German and English). We are missing Haggadot in French, Spanish and Russian.
If there is someone in your network who can help us get access to a digitised
Haggadah in one of these languages, please let me know as soon as possible!

Thank you so much!

Pavel

Re: [ha-Safran] Internet Archive

2020-04-02 Thread Susan Pankowsky via Hasafran
As was discussed yesterday on the AJL zoom chat, I am a solo librarian at a
synagogue. I have created an online catalog (it's taken me a long time,
since I only work 2 hours a week). I realized that it's useless at the
moment, so I began adding the OpenLibrary links to my collection. I feel
that since I own these copies, but no one has access to them, that I am not
infringing on copyright. If the titles are online, and my patrons are
searching for them, I should facilitate that access. Buying a copy at
Amazon would not be a good choice, unless it was an e-book. I am not adding
any links to books that I do not own. If someone uses OpenLibrary to look
for other books, that's their choice. I can facilitate that discussion by
posting information about copyright infringement, and recommending that
patrons buy existing books once the pandemic is clear. But this is about
access, and I appreciate that the website is giving folks access to these
books at this time. What will I do once the pandemic is over? I'll have to
go back and delete those links, probably. But, I feel that this is too
important not to help folks gain access.
Thanks.

[ha-Safran] Special Coronavirus series on The Book of Life

2020-04-02 Thread Heidi Rabinowitz via Hasafran
Dear Book of Life Listeners,

I've created a special series on The Book of Life podcast called "Books in
the Time of Coronavirus" in which authors whose spring promotional events
have been cancelled can talk about their new Jewish books. These are short
episodes in which the authors interview themselves.

The first three episodes in this series are now available at
www.bookoflifepodcast.com . You'll hear
about:
1. No Entry

by Gila Green
2. Worse and Worse on Noah's Ark

by Leslie Kimmelman
3. Welcoming Eljiah

by Lesl*Ă©*a Newman
...with many more episodes to come.

For more information about this special series, please click here

.

Please give these authors some love, and please... wash your hands!

[ha-Safran] Re; Haggadot online

2020-04-02 Thread Diane Romm via Hasafran
Our grandson, Moshe, was due to have his bar mitzvah on April 4. Given that
celebrating in a conventional way is not possible, his father, Rabbi Zvi Romm
of the Bialystoker Synagogue in New York City, created a commentary on the
Haggadah online. It contains the entire text of the Haggadah along with his
commentary.
You can view it online or download it as a pdf.
It is available at

http://bialystoker.org/haggadah.htm
Wishing everyone a healthy and happy holiday.

[ha-Safran] Invitation to suggest virtual resources

2020-04-02 Thread Heidi Rabinowitz via Hasafran
Hi AJLers,

At yesterday's AJL Virtual Member Shmooze, many people expressed the desire
for a collaboration to compile Jewish virtual resources. I've made a start
with the Google Doc at the link below. Please check out the list, and add
your comments to suggest additional resources. Thanks!

[ha-Safran] Haggada for kids (for our present moment)

2020-04-02 Thread Michelle Chesner via Hasafran
Hi all,

I mentioned a haggadah that I had gotten as a free PDF on the AJL check-in
yesterday. It's for younger kids, and has the typical coloring and game
pages, but also includes a very thoughtful section of how kids' lives and
expectations around Passover may have been shaken up because of the
COVID-19 pandemic. I've reached out to the creator, Sari Kopitnikoff, and
she's asked that anyone interested be in touch with her directly in one of
the following ways: thatjewishmom...@gmail.com, on thatjewishmoment.com,
Facebook.com/thatjewishmoment or instagram.com/thatjewishmoment.

With best wishes for a happy and healthy Passover,
Michelle Chesner

Hello All,

I have had a request from a Jewish studies teacher whether there are any online
Haggadahs students can read. Apart from Sefaria, can any of you recommend any
resources?

Thanks,
