[ha-Safran] New novel about Hasmonean dynasty by Judy Petsonk

I am excited to announce the release of Judy Petsonk's new novel
*Justice: Maccabees and Pharisees. *
This newest novel is about how the fierce rivalry between Alexander
Janneus, King of Judea, and Shimon ben Shetakh, the leader of the
Pharisees, led to the transformation of Judaism from the Second Temple to
the rabbis of today.

The story is woven through alternating perspectives of Shimon's ex-wife and
Shimon's best friend.

*Judy is available to Zoom with synagogues and Jewish communities*, and
looks forward to hearing from you to talk about the extraordinary forgotten
women of this period in Jewish history.

[ha-Safran] Fwd: Don't Cry, You're a Jew

Author and editor, Rosally Saltsman, would like to convey the following
message about her upcoming publication.

Dear Friends,

 I have begun collecting stories for another book – *Don’t Cry, You’re a
Jew: Inspiring True Stories of Jewish Pride, Resilience and Courage.*

The books that don’t go to contributors and authors will be given to Lori
Palatnik of Momentum to distribute in her *kiruv* activities (I’m aiming
for 1000).

I have opened a fundraising campaign to publish the book:

The minimum donation is $1. For every donation of $8, you get a digital
copy of the book, for every donation of $20, you receive a hard copy of the
book including shipping, and for $100 you can place a dedication in the
book and you will also receive a hard copy.

I hope to have the book completed and printed by March, God-willing.

The stories I have thus far collected are indeed inspiring and I’m sure you
will enjoy the book. You’re of course welcome to submit a story of your own
(If you have not yet done so).

[ha-Safran] Openings on the Sydney Taylor Committee

Happy Monday all!

The Sydney Taylor Book Award committee has three open spaces coming up for
the 2022 and 2023 award years. Committee members chosen will serve from
January 2021 through the June 2023 AJL conference. Committee members will
read 120+ picture books, Middle Grade and YA of Jewish content and score
them. Committee members will also attend all AJL conferences during their
term, and all meetings called by the committee chair.

You do not need to be an AJL member to apply, however being a committee
member is contingent upon AJL membership.

[ha-Safran] Seeking Internship

I received an inquiry from a student working on her MLS at the University of 
Denver who is seeking an internship in January to complete her degree.  Though 
I do not have any opportunities in my library, I wanted to share her 
information with this group as she seems incredibly qualified.  If her resume 
is not able to be included in this post, I'm sure she will be happy to provide 
it to you directly.  Her name is Pearl Bass and can be reached at 
bass.pearl@gmail.com

She writes:
My name is Pearl Bass and I'm a Library and Information Science masters student 
at the University of Denver. I'm also an active member of the Hillel community 
at DU, a scholar in DU's Israel Explorers program, and until recently a Hebrew 
language student.
I'm currently looking for internship opportunities to complete my LIS degree. I 
would be happy to help out in any way I can, remotely or in person. I am open 
to and enthusiastic about any opportunity in any kind of library, but my career 
focus is primarily outreach in public libraries. Again though, I am more than 
happy to work with any library in any area! All learning opportunities are 
extremely valuable.

I am hoping to start the internship in January and complete 100 hours. If 
someone has an interest but would like me to start sooner, I'm checking with my 
supervisor now about the possibility of that.  Thank you for your consideration.
