[ha-Safran] Sophie Brody Award Committee looking for members

2022-01-12 Thread Emily Bergman via Hasafran
The Sophie Brody Award
 is
given by the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) of the American
Library Association for the best Jewish book for the general reader. AJL
has one permanent position on Sophie Brody, and Rachel Kamin is the current
AJL representative. I am also on Sophie Brody as Chair of the Jewish
Information Committee of the Ethnic & Multicultural Information Exchange
Round Table. If you are interested in serving on the award committee, you
must be a RUSA member. There's lots of good reasons to join:

   - The books are fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and graphic novels, so
you'll be reading a large cross-section of new Jewish books.
   - You get a copy of all the books considered for the award, which is
about 150 new books a year. I donate mine to my library and other
   libraries that can use them.
   - You get to discuss books with interesting people.
   - It's a lot of reading (50+ books/year) and the last 6-8 weeks are very
intense, but serving on the committee is very rewarding and fulfilling.

If you're a RUSA member, I really hope you'll join the award committee.
They need some new members; I was on the committee as the AJL rep for 5
years and then off for 4, and there are only 2 new faces from the last time
I was on the committee, and one of those is Rachel.

Contact Rachel or me if
you have any questions.

Thanks,
Emily
