Hi,

Here’s a link to the “Elazar poster” in my Dropbox:  This poster was made
by the former Library person at Beth David.  She made it out of wrapping
paper.  I have been the Librarian for 10 1/2 years.

[ha-Safran] Stamp ID

Hello Everyone!

I’m doing some provenance research (JCR, OAD and other orphaned books) today 
and ran across a stamp which is in several books we hold. It reads, “desinf. 
Lk. SEPT 45”. I could be totally wrong, but I think the only piece I’m missing 
is the Lk. I believe the first word is disinfect and of course the end is 
September 1945. If anyone has some insight into the meaning behind the entire 
phrase, or stamp, or just a translation for Lk, it would be greatly appreciated.

And now for something completely different!

This month at Nice Jewish Books lesbian, poet, activist, and Yiddishist Irena 
Klepfisz speaks about her lastest book, Her Birth and Later Years : New and 
Collected Poems, 1971-2021 with Yermiyahu Ahron Taub. Yermiyahu is a poet and 
Yiddishist in his own right. He and Irena have been friends for years and they 
speak about her process of writing and her use of Yiddish in her work as well 
as the legacy of her parents and extended family.

Barbara, I found two books in my Temple collection that might be helpful:

   - *The Vanished Worlds of Jewry* by Raphael Patai (Macmillan, 1980) has
   a chapter on Yemen. More about the sweep of history than daily life, but
   there might be the odd nugget there.
   - *Exotic Jewish Communities* by Schifra Strizower (Thomas Yoseloff,
   1962). Includes some commentary by Brauer.
