[ha-Safran] ala virtual member meeting tomorrow - resolution in support of campus protests

2024-06-17 Thread Sally Stieglitz via Hasafran
If anyone is an ALA member, there is an online membership meeting tomorrow.
Apparently, registration is still open, even though the deadline has
already passed. There's a resolution on the table called Resolution in
Defense of Anti-War Protesters' Freedom of Expression and Assembly. The
full text is now in ALA Connect. If you have an interest in voting on the
resolution, you must be registered and attend.

Please don't use this space (hasafran) to discuss the resolution, but if
anyone has a question, feel free to message me directly.

Thanks,
Sally

[ha-Safran] The Hebrew Teacher at Nice Jewish Books

2024-06-17 Thread Sheryl Stahl via Hasafran
Often, we just want to connect with all the people around us and fix any
problems we see. In the Hebrew Teacher, a collection of three novellas, people
attempt to do this in very different situations. But sometimes, other people
see the problem from a different perspective, or the problem is not what it
seems. And to connect with someone else, they need to want to connect back with
you. Join me for a conversation with Maya Arad about navigating life, jobs, and
family.

[ha-Safran] Summer in Jerusalem! The Resnick fellowships at the National Library of Israel - Call for applications

2024-06-17 Thread Reuven Kruger via Hasafran
The National Library of Israel is delighted to invite senior scholars to apply
for the Stewart and Lynda Resnick fellowship program. We are now accepting
applications for the second cohort of four (4) fellows during Spring/Summer
2025.
The fellowship program is designed for scholars whose work will benefit from
on-site access to the NLI special collections, in one or more of the Library’s
core collection areas:
Israel,
Judaica, Islam and the Middle
East,
Humanities, and/or Israeli and Jewish
music. These collections also include the extensive holdings of the Central
Archives for the History of the Jewish
People.
The fellowship includes a generous stipend and a digitization allowance.
Recipients of the fellowship will be in residence at the National Library of
Israel for one-two months in the summer of 2025, during which they will pursue
their research and give a public lecture.
The program is open to tenured professors who are not residents of Israel. The
application deadline for submissions is June 30, 2024. Applicants will be
notified of the committee’s decision during September 2024.
