Good afternoon, My name is Lee Goldman Kikel and I’m writing to ask if you might consider offering my book, Perseverance: One Holocaust Survivor’s Journey from Poland to America, in your library.
This is a story of my father’s trials through years of Nazi torture in the ghetto, Auschwitz and other labor camps, told in his own words. Melvin Goldman was born in Poland to a middle-class Jewish family and as a young man had begun to learn the family’s metalworking trade. Then the Nazis invaded and destroyed everything he knew. He endured years in the ghetto, and the death camps left him physically and mentally broken, but miraculously alive. He was determined to rise above the tragedy. After his slow recovery in Europe, Melvin made it to the United States and settled in the industrial city of Pittsburgh. He married, raised a daughter and built a successful business, Lee Trading Company. In the late 1970s, my father had the foresight to record his life story. His recollections are the basis of this book. Additionally, I compiled reflections and a large appendix with historical documentation.
