Hello Safranim,
I am not sure if this was posted but I see the NY Times reviewed the recent
book about Sydney Taylor. Here's the link:

Re: [ha-Safran] EMAIL LIBRARIANS FOR FAIRNESS JUST SENT TO DR. BOLLINGER OF COLUMBIA U.

2019-09-25 Thread Michael Kahn via Hasafran
I am not a member of Librarians for Fairness.
Perhaps a more conciliatory note could have been taken such as asking "What
steps can be taken so that we do not need to call on our members to cease
donating to your library?"
I also wonder, can the library even influence who the university invites to
speak?
Just wondering.

Fred,
I remember him talking about how they were going to do an exhibit on Szyk
in the Jewish Museum in Berlin.
This was 10 years ago. I was just a student then yet he took his time to
sit and talk to me like a regular librarian. He was really enthusiastic
about Szyk.

Re: [ha-Safran] Christian content in bible stories

2017-08-02 Thread Michael Kahn
I am sorry but the idea of Christian books being used by synagogues bothers
me so much. I don't me any offense to anyone.
Page 6 of Noah and G-d's Great Promise says that Noah lived in the desert.
I've never heard that before.
Why give a foothold to an a minister devoted to spreading Christianity?

I am visiting San Francisco 12/23-12/31 and the librarian inside me was
wondering if there are any good library tours especially Hebraic library

Subject: [ha-Safran] Looking for examples of Jewish Advocacy throughout
history
To: hasafran@lists.osu.edu

Hello all-

I am looking for examples of Jews advocating for government
help/protection/safety any time throughout Jewish history. This article in
Tablet magazine draws a comparison between rabbis protesting the Iran deal
and a similar march during WWII when American rabbis advocated for US aid
for European Jews
http://www.tabletmag.com/scroll/193387/the-rabbis-take-washington#

Does anyone have similar examples or can help with where to start looking?
There must be hundreds of examples, but need help with a starting point or
a way to narrow it down.

Thank you!

Artscroll published a book for youth in 1986, The Exiles of Crocodile
Island, by Henye Meyer. The description on Amazon says it is a story of a
community of children torn from their homes by the Inquisition and their
defiant struggle to keep their faith. The ISBN number is 0899067727.
