[ha-Safran] Giving Tuesday for AJL

2018-11-26 Thread Dina Herbert via Hasafran
Dear AJL Family,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving full of family, friends, good
food, and little traffic. As many of you know, in reaction to Black Friday
and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday has started as a way to counteract some of
our consumerism and spend some time supporting non-profit foundations that
mean so much to us.

*Tomorrow, please consider a donation to support AJL
*. Our services
are vital but not free. We are all volunteers we need your support.

Some of the wonderful things AJL does:

   - Offer student scholarships and stipends for conference attendance

   - Honor the best Jewish
children's literature, reference & bibliography, and adult fiction
    with literary awards
   - Review new books for members

   - Curate bibliographies for all types of Judaic and Hebraic libraries

   - Maintain the Jewish Value Finder
   - Publish the peer-reviewed journal *Judaic Librarianship*

   - Support many members with scholarships to attend annual conferences
   - Work with ALA to produce webinars

This year, in reaction to the tragedy at the Tree of Life Congregation in
Pittsburgh, members quickly published the *Love Your Neighbor *series.
These lists of books for young readers encourage learning tolerance and
providing all with a better understanding of the Jewish people and religion
to combat anti-Semitism (Book list 1
 and Book list 2
are on the AJL blog).

The board and council accomplish all these (and more!) incredible tasks
while keeping membership dues low and volunteering our time. *In order to
ensure the success and future of AJL, please consider donating to AJL and
share your donations on social media with #givingtuesday.*

As the season of Chanukkah approaches, let us all strive to light up the
darkness with libraries and remind all in our communities their importance.

*Donate here*

Warmly,

Dina Herbert
AJL President

[ha-Safran] Giving Tuesday

2016-11-26 Thread Jacqueline Benefraim
Shalom AJLers,

As many of you know, November 29th has been dubbed "Giving Tuesday" where
everyone is asked to donate to their favorite charity. I am not asking for
your personal donation (although we'd be glad to accept it), but rather
that you spread the following message to friends and family through your
favorite method of contact. I will also be posting this on AJL's Facebook
page, so you can simply share that post or feel free to write anything
you'd like, followed by the donate link.

I hope you all will join me in asking for donations.

All the best,

Jackie

In a world where fake news passes for truth on Facebook, we need an
organization whose mission is to provide reliable resources are made
available in all formats and at all levels to anyone who seeks to study and
understand the Jewish experience. The Association of Jewish Libraries is an
international professional organization that fosters access to information
and research in all forms of media relating to all things Jewish. The
Association promotes Jewish literacy and scholarship and provides a
community for peer support and professional development.
