[ha-Safran] Searching for K'Tonton article

2021-04-14 Thread Daniel Stuhlman via Hasafran
I need help finding an article that is not in any digital source. I can't
find a paper copy in any Chicago library. I did want to see the whole
issue, but I will have to settle for a scanned copy of the article.

In the first issue of Women's League Outlook (September 1930) is the first
K'Tonton story by Sadie Rose Weilerstein. I don't know the exact title.

Periodical Title : Women's League outlook.

Responsibility : Women's League for Conservative Judaism.

New York, N.Y. : Women's League of the United Synagogue of America

Vol. 1, no. 1 (Sept. 1930)-v. 77, no. 3 (spring/summer 2007).

This is part of my preparation for a presentation at June's AJL
conference. I would be grateful if someone could supply a photocopy and
e-mail it to me. I will give you credit for helping with the presentation.

There are many other books that I would like to consult that do not seem to
have electronic copies and are not available locally. I am not sure how to
examine them as I have no travel funds to visit other cities. Some items I
can't even find cataloged in WorldCat.

Thanks,

Donnie

[ha-Safran] Searching for an article from Judaism

2021-02-12 Thread Wendie Sittenfield via Hasafran
Shalom Safranim,

I am searching for a full text article which is supposedly available from a
Proquest database.

Foundations of the State of Israel: An Analysis of Israel's Declaration of
Independence
Eidelberg, Paul.Judaism; New York Vol. 36, Iss. 4, (Fall 1987): 391.

My subscription to eLibrary from Proquest does not include Judaism.

If anyone is able to access the article, please send it my way.

With much appreciation.

Shabbat shalom.

[ha-Safran] Searching for an article

2018-08-09 Thread Daniel Stuhlman
Shalom Safranim:

This is mainly just a vent. I have been looking for an article in
Conservative Judaism published in 1992. Unfortunately my personal
collection is missing that year. The libraries I work in don't have that
year. CJ is not available using Ebsco or Jstor. I could pay for the
article, but I hate to pay for an article that I may look at for only a few
moments.

Does anyone know if CJ is available on an academic database? I've tried my
college library databases and the Chicago Public Library and can't find it.

Thanks for reading this and Shabbat Shalom

Hi Amy, the article you are looking for was in Mosaic. Here is my response to
the article on my own blog, and I included the link back to the Mosaic
article:

Subject: [ha-Safran] searching for an article

Sometime over the last month or two I saw an article online about the poor
quality of Jewish children's books. The piece opened with the low-hanging
fruit, blasting SHMELF THE HANUKKAH ELF. A google search indicates criticisms
from a variety of publishers and reviewers on that title, but the article was
about a broader trend.
I'd like to re-read it and discuss the piece with some friends but I'm unable
to find it.
Can anyone direct me to its source?
Many thanks,
Amy Turim

2016-11-29 Thread Rachel Kamin
Hi Amy,

Here's the article:
http://mosaicmagazine.com/observation/2016/11/why-are-jewish-childrens-books-so-bad/
I agree with Weingrad's assessment of Shmelf but I totally DISAGREE with the
rest of his article. Be sure to also read Heidi Rabinowitz's response to the
article citing over 120 titles that prove how very wrong he is:
