[Haskell-cafe] Haskell and a new web developement mailinglist?

2007-03-20 Thread Marc Weber
I've been talking to Chris Eidhof the last days and we'd like to suggest adding
another specialized haskell mailinglist: Haskell and web developement.

I think the global interest will increase in the feature, libraries are
evolving and it would be nice to have a place to discuss them.

Any comments?

If there is no veto where can I request it?

I support the idea to have such a mailing list.

Thanks.

I'd love to contribute here. You should be able to find an appropriate
email to ask for this mailing list on the haskell.org site.

There is currently a happs mailing list. I see no reason not to
broaden the subject matter to haskell web development in general.

The URL for the list is http://groups.google.com/group/happs

I'm also interested. I'm trying to free up some time to experiment a
bit with web frameworks. I would also like to try help to clean up the
HTTP module and increase its performance.

Hi Alex

The discription of this mailinglist is labeled
HAppS issues and development.
and can be found here http://groups.google.com/group/happs
correct?
I'd suggest adding it to the comprehensive list of all Haskell related mailing
lists
http://haskell.org/mailman/listinfo

You are right that most people (me too) will try using HAppS because it gives
best porformance when talking about haskell http servers.

But writing web applications using haskell is not limited to writing servers
(See the yhc haskell - javascript pages approach
http://www.haskell.org/haskellwiki/Yhc/Javascript by Malcolm Wallace)

If I find time (not in the near future) I'd like to get to know how much effort
it would be adding haskell as native scripting language to browsers (the way
you can use flash or .. but using DOM and HTML as frontent )

This would be really confusing talking about topics like this on a HAppS
mailinglist, wouldn't it?

I've written to John Peterson who replied:
I'm sure that will be fine - unfortunately Simon M is away this week and
he's the mailman guy but we'll get it going as soon as he returns.

Thus we will have some time to discuss wether its better to change the
discription of HAppS mailinglist to something like (HAppS dev and
writing web applications with haskell in general) or create yet another
haskell mailinglist.

I'd vote for the second (see my other post as reply to Alex)
