As regards to waiting for this code to be checked in, I think this is being done incrementally instead of one big jumbo patch. There are other patches dependent on this and waiting for couple of days impedes progress. As we did in other feature branches if you miss out on reviewing individual patches, you get time to review it during merge time. Also please feel free to comment after the fact.
