Thanks [~ayushtkn] for patch.

latest patch LGTM. one minor comment, give meaningful name for
{{hdfsMountPointStatus()}} method like \{{updateMountPointStatus()}}.

Once this is addressed +1 from my side.

I would probably put one setter per line but yes, that'd be cleaner.
A modification to HDFS commons but I think is reasonable.
A utility function in RBF is also fine with me.

bq. static class HdfsMountPointFileStatus extends HdfsFileStatus {

[~elgoiri] HdfsFileStatus is an interface.we can't extend it in a new class.I
guess we can add one method in the Builder class in HdfsFileStatus to clone the
existing and add the number of children and return.

Quite Like

{code:java}
public Builder setChild(HdfsFileStatus h, int children) {
  this.atime(h.getAccessTime()).blocksize(h.getBlockSize())
  .children(children).ecPolicy(h.getErasureCodingPolicy())
  .feInfo(h.getFileEncryptionInfo()).fileId(h.getFileId())
  .group(h.getGroup()).isdir(h.isDir()).length(h.getLen())
  .mtime(h.getModificationTime()).owner(h.getOwner())
  .path(h.getLocalNameInBytes()).perm(h.getPermission())
  .replication(h.getReplication()).storagePolicy(h.getStoragePolicy())
  .symlink(h.getSymlinkInBytes()).build();
  return this;
}
{code}

And in our side we can be like :

{code:java}
  return new HdfsFileStatus.Builder().setChild(dirStatus, children).build();
{code}

It would also be land up being Quite clean. :)

Íñigo Goiri commented on HDFS-14085:

Yes, it is a little unfortunate and not sure if it's worth the travel.
One thing that could be cleaner is to have:
{code}
static class HdfsMountPointFileStatus extends HdfsFileStatus {
  HdfsMountPointFileStatus(HdfsFileStatus fileStatus, int numChildren) {
// builder
  }
}
{code}
Anyway, if it ends up doing too much, I'm fine with this.

[~elgoiri] HdfsFileStatus is an immutable object I guess that is made to work
like that way only Sadly :(.Not sure whether we should go on creating a new sub
class or something like that for just supporting usage in only one
method.Wouldn't it be quite heavy for just one usage?

[~surendrasingh] Do you have any opinion on this?

I'm still a little bit torn with he new builder for the dir status.
I think we could create a subclass for it with a HdfsFileStatus which we can
easily set the number of children.

Íñigo Goiri commented on HDFS-14085:

A little unfortunate that for us to set the children number we have to do a
full builder.
This should be creating a {{HdfsLocatedFileStatus}} and it doesn't have a
setter.
For the return, now we could technically return null at the end if the
dirStatus==null.

Surendra Singh Lilhore commented on HDFS-14085:
---

Thanks [~ayushtkn] for the patch.

One minor comment.

Still this patch will not give correct child count for mount point. Calculate
the total child’s for mountpoint in \{{getFileInfoAll}} and update in file
status.
{code:java}
+  HdfsFileStatus fInfo = getFileInfoAll(entry.getDestinations(),
+  new RemoteMethod("getFileInfo", new Class[] {String.class},
+  new RemoteParam()));{code}

Once this is addressed +1 from my side...

Thanks [~ayushtkn] and [~elgoiri].
Minor nit: The first argument of {{assertEquals}} is {{expected}} and the
second is {{actual}}, so
{code}
assertEquals(finfo.getOwner(), "owner1")
assertEquals(finfo1[0].getOwner(), "owner1");
assertEquals(finfo.getGroup(), ("group1")
assertEquals(finfo1[0].getGroup(), "group1");
{code}
should be
{code}
assertEquals("owner1", finfo.getOwner())
assertEquals("owner1", finfo1[0].getOwner());
assertEquals("group1", finfo.getGroup())
assertEquals("group1", finfo1[0].getGroup());
{code}

[^HDFS-14085-HDFS-13891-03.patch] LGTM.
A minor nit; instead of:
{code}
assertTrue(finfo.getOwner().equals("owner1")
&& finfo1[0].getOwner().equals("owner1"));
assertTrue(finfo.getGroup().equals("group1")
&& finfo1[0].getGroup().equals("group1"));
{code}
I would do:
{code}
assertEquals(finfo.getOwner(), "owner1")
assertEquals(finfo1[0].getOwner(), "owner1");
assertEquals(finfo.getGroup(), ("group1")
assertEquals(finfo1[0].getGroup(), "group1");
{code}

[~elgoiri]

Since we are using getListing() in the tests . All the four test cases written
will fail if this is not there!!! You can give it a try running them by just
changing the said line to
this for the purpose of verifying :)
String mName = name.startsWith("/") ? name : name;

I'm fine with one of the two:
* Do the After method cleaning all the stuff left behind.
* Fixing the checkstyle for the current one.

For the / in the start, I just want to have a unit test that fails if this is
not there:
{code}
String mName = name.startsWith("/") ? name : "/" + name;
{code}

Thanks [~elgoiri] for the review!!!
{quote}I think we could have an After method to cleanup instead of having to do
the finally.
{quote}
I too had this same intent but there is one problem going this way that firstly
name and number of files is different in the tests and moreover one test I
guess doesn't create even.We can't explicitly delete with the name because if
that file was not created in the test it will fetch us an
FileNotFoundException. The only way to do this call Ls on root of both the
Namespace and iterate throughout to check if there is a file then delete.I did
it but it little more time taking thats why I came back to this approach.No
doubt we can go for putting it in the After method.If you confirm.
{quote}We were going through that part of the code and we were able to list the
paths with no issues?
{quote}
If I am getting your concern correctly.You are confirming that Are we covering
the part where "/" was removed? If that is the question then Yes.All the Tests
are going through the same path which removes the "/" .

Actually the getMountPointStatus() where actually this processing is happening
is called up by two methods one is the getListing() which is used here which
removes the "/" and second by getFileInfo() which keeps it. In the previous
test getFileInfo() was used that is why no discrepancy or error was not
encountered .

I will upload the next patch with fixed checkstyle, Once confirmed regarding
the After method approach :)

Thanks for splitting the tests; looks good.

We should fix those checkstyles; I guess it comes from not wanting to add
spaces to the whole class.
I think we could have an After method to cleanup instead of having to do the
finally.

Regarding the addition of the "/" it makes sense but I'm a little concerned
about the test coverage.
We were going through that part of the code and we were able to list the paths
with no issues?
Are we covering this case now?

bq. What is the case we are covering with mName? Were we missing non-absolute
paths before?

In the getListing at
{code:java}
  final List children = subclusterResolver.getMountPoints(src);
{code}
the getMountPoints(src) returns removing slash and without slash we cant't
resolve that mount point.
{code:java}
// Remove leading slash, this is the behavior of the mount tree,
// return only names.
mounts.add(mount.replace("/", ""));

Thanks [~ayushtkn] for  [^HDFS-14085-HDFS-13891-01.patch].
* What is the case we are covering with {{mName}}? Were we missing non-absolute
paths before?
* I would call the variables {{nnContext0}}, {{nnFs0}} and so on.
* The unit test is a little big right now. I would do the assertions right
after the creation. Actually, it might be a good idea to have a function for
each of the 4 cases and have a javadoc for each explaining them.
* We can fix the checkstyle.

Thanks [~ajisakaa].

{quote}If there are multiple destination folders and the
owner/group/permissions of the directories are different.
{quote}
This shouldn't be allowed while adding mount point. It is again confusion for
user when user has permission to write in one namespace and in second namespace
permission is not there. When order is random, his operation some time fail and
some time pass.

{quote}Just a minor thought.While adding multiple destinations we could have
verified that all destinations have same permissions and owner details

I am +1 for this.

[~elgoiri] [~ajisakaa] Thanks for the agreement!!!

By far as solution is concerned.

I would prefer it to be an on call operation to get those details only when the
command is called rather than having any overhead running always.Since this ls
on mount points doesn't seems to be a frequent operation.Whenever it is called
we can get the correct info at that time only.

As far as implementation is concerned we can get the correct details from the
getFileInfo(..) API that is already there and as of now we can use the same
behavior it has for multiple destination.

IMO If we want to improve further the getFileInfo(..) we can track that too
separately,

Just a minor suggestion.While adding multiple destinations we could have
verified that all destinations have same permissions and owner details and then
all ADD rather than getting into such a situation.

[~surendrasingh] Any suggestions?

bq. User from directory owner group will get permission denied exception and he

Agreed. Now I'm +1 for showing the destination folders to avoid confusion from
users.

The problems are:
* If the destination folder does not exist.
* If there are multiple destination folders and the owner/group/permissions of
the directories are different.

When the problems occur, there are some misconfigurations in the cluster. I'd
like to show warnings in Router Web UI and log warning message to ask the
admins to fix them.

Íñigo Goiri commented on HDFS-14085:

Internally, the mount point is not a folder and we have to map it to something
that looks like a folder when we do {{ls}}.
The current implementation in the HDFS-13891 branch is that the mount point
shows up as a folder with the user, group, and permissions from the mount point
in the table.
I think conceptually this is correct for the user and the group.
I agree that the permissions are kind of confusing; if we were able to do move
and delete for those folders we could keep the current syntax.
However, we currently only allow this through the dfsrouteradmin, so no point
on showing them this way.
(At some point, we may want to do some admin ops like mv, chown, and rm through
the ClientProtocol interface.)

Given that, I would propose to just show those folders as r-xr-xr-x.
I would keep the user/group as is right now.
In addition, we may want to add a xattr with something that indicates this is a
mount point.

Thanx [~elgoiri] for the comment.

HDFS-13891 it made the owner group and permissions changed for sure but made it
same as what we see in the dfsrouteradmin.

IIUC the permissions and owner info shown there in dfsrouteradmin is admin
level that who can modify or change those mount table entries not the file
system level.

The dfs -ls permissions are at user level ;That is who can write using or read
using that path.(For user that is just a directory in his FS.For us it is also
redirecting to an actual directory in some namespace).

The permissions that dfsrouteradmin shows are not even checked for general file
system operations,we just get the request and forward that to NN where the
permissions which are there on the actual directory are checked.

If we call the command -getFAcl on the same mount point entry we will get the
different owner and permissions wrt what now shown in dfs -ls (Actually we will
get the real permissions from getfacl)

If we give a Look at the TODO

{code:java}
  // TODO support users, it should be the user for the pointed folder
{code}

It also said it should be of the pointed folder.Not the admin level for the
mount point.

Pls Correct If I have misunderstood something in the context. :)

Thanks [~ayushtkn] for opening the JIRA; we should make it a sub-task of
HDFS-13891.

I think this is very related to HDFS-14011 which already started tracking the
user for the mount point.
I'm not sure if that covers the permissions but the mount points have also
permissions so we could display those if they are still wrong after HDFS-14011.

*Probable solutions*
1. Make any extra entry in the state store for the file system level
permissions and keep on updating them periodically.
2. Add the call to get the file info for each point at the time of command
execution
3. Don't allow the access to root to a user. He actually has the permission to
say mount point /mount he shouldn't have access to /
4. Don't show only the permissions.Better than not knowing than knowing the
wrong stuff.
Or if any other better solution.

Open for discussion. :)
