Re: Lekhaim [le-hayim]
Thanks to all the respondees (Bob, Stanley, Zachary). I think that le.haim is the way to go. Have we come to a consensus on how to handle the "hypen" that would appear in Hebrew transcriptions? I believe that Bob has suggested that we not include the hyphen when Weinrich enters these under their prefixes. Lekhaim [le-hayim]
In my copy of Weinreich's dictionary it reads: LEKHAIM, with "ai" constituting dieresis (i.e., no intervening consonant between the two vowels). Niborski also transcribes it (in Hebrew letters) LEKHAIM. Zachary Baker

Sorry if other respondents have already touched on these points: *It seems strange that Weinreich would have "lehaim" rather than lekhaim--if I'm not mistaken, he uses "kh" for khes or khaf. *Whatever consonant is there in Weinreich, it will have to be changed to an "h" with a dot under it, and a "y" will probably have to be added in, as per LC's way of adapting Weinreich romanizations, probably yielding "le-h[with a dot under it]ayim. Hope this helps. -Stanley Nachamie [EMAIL PROTECTED] Authority Control Librarian (currently on leave) City University of New York

delay
Yossi: I think you're the right person to contact for this. If not, let me know. There seems to be a huge time lag for the Heb-NACO reflector. I sent out a response to Heidi's question close to an hour ago, and it doesn't seem to have been sent out yet. This has been an ongoing issue, and I'm not too clear on exactly what the causes could be. Can you help? b Yossi's answer: Since the surge of spam mail and since the Library of Congress blocked any message from Heb-NACO and Hasafran because of a spam message filtered through, I changed the settings for Heb-NACO to be approved by owner (i.e. me). Re: Le-hayim or Le-hayem
Thanks Bob. It did not occur to me to look under "lamed". I was baffled as to why I did not find it under the "het".
