My first impression for GuixSD

2019-01-05 Thread
I'm installed GuixSD using desktop config.
Gnome/Xfce desktop is garbled cause of missing Japanese fonts.
And missing /etc/grub.d and grub commands. I edited /boot/grub/grub.cfg
directly to be enable multiboot.

Otherwise is OK. Thank you.

Re: My first impression for GuixSD

2019-01-05 Thread
Thank you for your advice.

At first it's my first installation of GuixSD. My config.scm is edited at
locale, users, file-systems only from original desktop-config.scm.

My knowladge of guixsd configuration is not enogh to make my own
configuration yet. but my expectation is that I could ajdust system
configuration according to ordinal way of postinstallation.

For instance, locale setting at config.scm is to install additional fonts
according to locale or config of multiboot is that I could edit
/etc/grub.d/40_custom for postinstallation.

Cause of I don't know guixsd way yet.

How long to install icecat?

2019-01-06 Thread
I begun to guix package -i icecat 3 hours ago.

building
/gnu/store/sp4wr4lic94pk7s6p473ysxrbyqvmqf7-icecat-60.3.0-gnu1.drv...

still continuing

what's wrong ?

Re: How long to install icecat?

2019-01-06 Thread
Thank you. It's finished while I'm going out.

I found my guix system has no swap. I think swap setting is necessary in
file-systems configuration.

No login prompt and no display manager.

2019-01-07 Thread
I did guix system reconfigure config.scm then reboot.
No login prompt and no display manager.

I installed GuixSD again from DVD using same config.scm then reboot. But
same result.

No, nothing.

I confirmed slim was installed but not started and I couldn't change TTY
by Ctrl-Alt-F1/2/3/4.

Linux-libre was booting but shepherd did not start at first then I
reinstalled guixsd with same config.scm, at this time I did mkfs.ext4 -L
my-root=/dev/sda1, then shepherd started and showed many failing messages,
no display slim login screen, couldn't change TTYs.

Excuse my broken English.

It's working.

export

This solution is effective for LFS too. Thank you.

Where is gtk-update-icon-cache ... ?

2019-01-09 Thread
Hello, I'm still beginner for GuixSd.

I have installed epiphany but show error , missing hicolor-icon-theme.
I have installed hicolor-icon-theme. No error message but show bookmark
icon only, other icons missing.

What is other icon-theme or another packages I need to install?

I think missing icon cache but gtk-update-icon-cache command is missing too
then install gtk+-3.24.0.

Why gtk+-3.24.0 package don't include gtk-update-icon-cache etc commands?

Re: Where is gtk-update-icon-cache ... ?

2019-01-10 Thread
Thank you for your reply.

I found /gnu/store/...-gtk+-3.24.0-bin/bin/gtk-update-icon-cache. Also
found /gnu/store/...-glibc-2.28/bin/locale.

Why not these command make symlink to ~/.guix-profile/bin ?

And I did gtk-update-icon-cache -t -f --include-image-data
~/.guix-profile/share/icons/hicolor.
It return permission error that is directory read only.

I use ja_JP.utf8 locale and man page garbled in some case. I do LC_ALL=C or
posix man in that case.

OK, I will do it.
However I think it is kind to ask will you install bin when someone install
like gtk+ or glibc with guix package -i .

Thank you for your explanation in detail.
I appriciate when I use guix package -i epiphany, guix would recommend
additional packages hicolor-icon-theme and adwaita-icon-theme not installed.

And when install fonts, fc-cache is needed.

ibus-anthy can not input Japanese on guixSD 1.0.1

2019-12-12 Thread
Hello guix,

I am here 10 month ago and now I am back. I installed guixSD v1.0.1 on
Onkyo M511A5.

I was using gnome and xfce de for few days but I did not know how to set up
Japanese font on gdm, I also could not change desktop on gdm and I met the
issue I could not login after system reconfigure.

Now I don't use de but use cwm, i3 window manager with slim display manager.
I don't meet the issue with gdm.

I installed ibus-anthy for Japanese but can not input Japanese because
Japanese -anthy input method is missing on ibus-setup.

I found below article in help-guix archives and follow it.
https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/help-guix/2018-08/msg00083.html

My dot.xinitrc which is linked dot.xsession is as follows,

#!/run/current-system/profile/bin/sh

# keyboardlayout
setxkbmap -model pc104 -layout jp &

# root color
xsetroot -solid "#33"

# lang
#export LANG=ja_JP.utf8

# ibus-anthy
export GTK_DATA_PREFIX=/run/current-system/profile
export
GUIX_GTK2_IM_MODULE_FILE=/home/yoshi/.guix-profile/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodules-gtk2.cache
export
GUIX_GTK3_IM_MODULE_FILE=/home/yoshi/.guix-profile/lib/gtk-3.0/3.0.0/immodules-gtk3.cache
export IBUS_COMPONENT_PATH=/home/yoshi/.guix-profile/share/ibus/component
export GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus
export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus
#export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus

ibus-daemon -drx

exec $1

I can not yet input Japanese with ibus-anthy.

I installed ibus, anthy, ibus-anthy and python

I found python ...ibus-anthy/engine/main.py --ibus missing.

I can not find this issue on mailing archives of guix. Is it known bug or
do I need some runtime dependencies?
