Guix on Smartphones
Good January Guixers! I write you regarding a curiosity related to the mobile arena. I was trying to discover an overview of the present requirements to achieve a Guix System version for smartphones, so i was wondering if the following were the main points needed for: a) Hardware: - ARM architecture (i suppose also Risc-V will be popular) - Open Source firmware for included components (Wifi, Modem, GPS,..)* *if there are firmware blobs, they can be considered safe once they're properly isolated ? b) Software Stack: - reading PureOS experience, they were able to integrate existing software which runs fine on both Desktop and Mobile formats - KDE Neon ? As you can see, my main question is about a big-picture on having the chance to run Guix System with GNU/Linux mobile libre-apps/tools on top. Cheers, have a happy hacking, Matias

Good morning Guixers ! I was curious to find out if the processor PowerPC e6500[1] is actually compatible with the integration of the PowerPC architecture in progress [2], is it actually suitable ? My interest was sparked by a project which is developing an Open Hardware PPC Notebook [3], which i'm planning to purchase. Have a nice Guix day! The MEEP Project
Dear Guixers, i think that help-guix it's a wonderful coincidence, to suggest a sanctuary where help can be found, and a dirigible where ideas can be shared so to discover where one would like to go :) I've encountered an article about the MareNostrum Exascale Experimental Platform which, while i was reading, i've found many spots which shares with Guix spirit: - The search for flexibility, on their side, by being a reference to design HW via FPGAs, with interactive Development in mind - Envisaging Openness as fundamental, targeting open Hardware (eg. RISC-V) for the sake of Interoperability using OSS. - Having a solid ground on HPC, as a source for platform emulation I simply wanted to hint this initiative to see if it can bring ideas or opinions to Guix, and it's also nice to share about positive projects. It may be an opportunity for any enthusiastic of both Guix and their domain to bring a connection, since they're looking for engineers to jump in :D (details in their Job Openings section). It's refreshing to see this is part of a continental effort, by the EuroHPC and European Processor Project. At the login section it proposes both gnome and mate environment (which is correctly usable only the latter) b. Once i login on Mate's de, i'm unable to use any menu's application (suggests something similar to "unable to spawn proccess gio-launch-desktop - missing directory") I wonder if i actually performed corectly root's commands, by accessing it via "sudo su -", is it the right way? Translation of Guix Tutorial videos and Subtitles
Buongiorno Guixers! I'm so happy to refreshen my adventures here on Guix-land. In particular, i wanted to share that i find amazing the published Guix tutorial videos! Indeed, i would be really glad to contribute by giving an Italian version (my mother tongue) for the videos' audio. An opportunity for italian speakers who don't know other languages yet, curious about this initiative :) Parallely, i was wondering if subtitles can be enabled, so videos could be followed without an Audio channel, if unavailable for viewers.
