It can't hurt, although I tend to leave it for a few minutes and try a few
simple DIY fixes such as restarts, check logs etc first.

Re: Platform errors

2012-01-10 Thread Mike Abner
I'm sure they are doing a terrific job of monitoring.

The question though, from where I sit, is if my apps are having trouble, does
that trigger enough of an "elevated" state for them to look into it, or do I
need to be explicit about pinging support with a ticket saying i'm having an
issue.

I don't know what the right thing to do is. If it's my companies production
site they'll definitely get an urgent support ticket unless the status page has
been updated. If it's our staging site or one of my toy apps, probably not.

It's just unclear when they'll take action. This morning I was experiencing
problems for a good 15 minutes before this thread started and then the status
site wasn't updated for quite awhile longer. It wasn't urgent this morning,
but if today was tomorrow it would have been a problem.

Re: Platform errors

2012-01-10 Thread Neil Middleton
To be honest I think most of the time they're pretty much aware if it's
something thats affecting the stack.

>From what I understand of the monitoring systems, Heroku have an 'expected'
error rate across the stack. When this moves to something above a certain
threshold then the ops will look into it (hence the 'elevated error rates'
incidents). This could be anything, for instance, errors on the Facebook
API will then cause Heroku's 800,000-odd applications to start throwing
more exceptions that normal thus causing an incident to be raised.

Saying this though, I'm unsure as to what latency there is between the
event and the incident appearing on status.heroku.com. I'd like to think
that it's not long, but that they're also more focused on fixing the issue
rather than updating their status site.

Yeah. In the past I've created support issues when I've noticed the status as
OK but errors on my apps. I'd like to see a lighter way of letting them know.
I figured responding to the newsgroup might also get their attention.

The status page said OK when this thread was started…which is in the first
post…

Anyway, the issue was resolved after an hour or so and our staging env. is back
online. We had no problems on our production app.

We also just lost our staging machine. Production is fine, but I can't push to
staging and I can't get it to load up any pages.

So…something is up.

Starting to see Error H99 (Platform error) after a git push, which
failed with an internal error. Subsequent git push just hangs. heroku
ps:restart fails with internal error.

status.heroku.com says all ok. Anyone else seeing this?
