Sekolah Rendah AlAzhar telah diasaskan pada tahun 1989. Ia bermula dari sebuah rumah berkembar kepada sebuah banggunan kayu dua tingkat sehinggalah ke tapak kompleks sekarang di Jitra Kedah. Pada tahun 2006 Sekolah Menengah AlAzhar (berasrama) pula telah dimulakan. Tapak kompleks ini seluas 26 relung adalah hasil sumbangan orang ramai. Kini sekolah ini mempunyai murid seramai 500 orang. Kewujudan masjid yang akan dibina ini bukan sahaja akan dimanfaatkan oleh pelajar dan kakitangan sekolah, tetapi juga oleh masyarakat disekitarnya, khususnya bagi sembahyang berjamaah dan kelas pengajian.
