Re: [Histonet] Teaching color blind Histo student

2021-03-27 Thread B kB via Histonet
Hi,

Colourblindness ain’t a problem at all.
I know, because I already work for 35 years in the histopathogy.
Just a few things that causes problems for me:
Grossing: I describe tissue in the way I see, mostly I call something with
2 colours, p.e. “ the serose is brownish grey” (while collegaes mostly
mention 1 colour. But I can see the difference between normal and abnormal
tissue, that’s more important.
Embedding: only skin biopsies is it difficult to oriëntate when the colour
of the dermis is the same as the subcutis (in my eyes ;-). So with that, I
ask my collegaes to embed these biopsies for me.
Staining: When I have to do the stainings, I just have to following the
protocol. In the SOP, There is always a example of the control slide. I
just have to compare the determination with the example of the SOP .

These are just a few example.
A colourblind technologist could be a great technician, with just a very
small restriction.

Re: [Histonet] Permanent mountant for Oil Red O

2019-09-17 Thread B kB via Histonet
Hi Christopher,

You van try Imsol-mount
Vendors are for example Sigmaaldrich or VWR .

After a staining, airdry the solide. Cover with mislopen-mount and let this
dry for a while ( no problem with higher temps). After that, You can cover
it with glass or tape.

Goed luck,

[Histonet] Problems with Ultraview Amplification Kit

2019-06-01 Thread B kB via Histonet
Hi,

A question aspecially for the the users of the Roche Benchmark Ultra.
Recently we are having troubles with the ultraview amplification kit for
the ultra.
IT causes a lot of unwanted background.
We tested a lot, to reduce this problem, but the problem didn’t disappear.
The service center in Europe (Mannheim Germany) couldn’t find the course
and send us a new kit with different lotnumber. This wasn’t the correct
action Roche should do. Most of the users of the Ultra in the Netherlands
have contact with eachother and we knew that alle that labs had the same
problems with this kit. The new lotnumber they send us was already tested
in another lab and gave also that background. Roche was known by this. A
strange action to send a “ new” product which was also inadequate. it looks
Roche is having problems managing a good ampliciation Kit.
Do you (users of the benchmark ultra using the ultraview amplication kit)
recognize this ?
Do You have problems with specific lotnumbers?

Re: [Histonet] Disposal of blocks and slides

2016-01-12 Thread B kB via Histonet
Hello,

in the Netherlands (Europe), the Dutch Society of Pathologists, has made a
document called "code for good use of body materials".
This advice is established after an juridical consultation in connection
with the excisting legal provisions.

The standard for now (since 2011) is:

blocks 115 years
frozen material 30 years
slides (glass or digital) 30 years
reports 30 years
