[Histonet] special stainers
Our histology laboratory is currently having problems with their specials stains; in particular the silver stains. Can you please tell me what instrumentation others in the field may be using for special stains? [Histonet] possible AFB contaminant
Please help, we have had an increase in demands for repeats on our AFB stain. Our pathologists have been noticing what they believe are false positives on our slides. We perform our AFBs on the Ventana Nexus and some are done by hand. Because of this problem, we have been doing side by side comparisons using the Nexus and hand stain. We still have complaints. We have made new reagents, changed kits, tested our DI water sytem and have different techs cutting using different waterbaths. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. [Histonet] Coverglass
We are currently trying to find a manufacturer that may sell cover glass slips measuring 45 x 60. We found a box by Clay Adams, but can not find that size anymore in their catalog. [Histonet] Bone marrow processing on Peloris
Good morning, I am currently looking at the possibility of running bone marrow cores and clots on our Peloris. Has anyone had success with this, and if so would you be willing to share your protocol? We use xylene on our runs. Debra Ann Ortiz Chief Medical Technologist The University of Chicago Medical Center Room E-602-A 5841 S. [Histonet] CJD procedures
We are looking to revamp our procedure for CJD and I would like to see if there are different protocols out there. At this point we are handling the whole process by hand, including melting the paraffin in a melting pot. Do we need a separate oven for melting the paraffin and heating the slides? RE: [Histonet] (no subject)
Thank you for your very prompt response. I do agree that we are here for the patient. Unfotunately I am under the gun to bring down costs and I thought that might be one way. Thanks again, and look forward to other responses. Debi From: Lorraine Cornett [mailto:corne...@hotmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, March 31, 2009 9:36 AM To: Ortiz, Debra [UCH] Subject: RE: [Histonet] (no subject) Yes, Unfortunately(financially) it is current practice at our facility as well. As a preemptive measure, I keep a record of the number of all unstained slides(total number only) thrown out on a monthly basis. The only alternative is to not cut the extra's and take a chance on not getting the proper area on the slide for diagnostic stains. I think that patient care is of the utmost importance, and this probably is a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things. We cut 10 slides 3 of which are used for HE's and the rest as unstained plus slides. What has happened is that we throw thousands of unused expensive slides a year because they are not used. Is there a general standard in practice out there for FNBs? Unfortunately, with the economy the way it is; and trying always to find ways to bring down expenses this seems counteractive.
