[Histonet] Bay Area Hospital Autopsies

2013-11-07 Thread DianaRip1

I am looking for some information about what everyone does for Autopsies at
their Hospital facility (particularly in the San Francisco Bay Area). Do
you have Deniers that help? How much of the autopsy do your Deniers do?
Where do you get your Deniers from and how much training have they had?
How much do your Pathologists actually participate in the autopsy? Do you
contract your Autopsies out?

Thanks so much for any help you can give.

One technique that has worked well for me is to cut the portion of
coverslip off of the half of the slide over the section you need to stain.

[Histonet] Getting parts for old Leica TP 1050

2012-11-07 Thread DianaRip1
I have an old Leica TP 1050 as a backup machine. Just loved the machine.
Thought it was great before Leica decided to make changes in the new
model. However, it has had a recent break down possibly a solenoid and
something else. My repair guy says he can no longer get parts for it. What
is
everyone else doing that may still have one of these machines?

Thanks so much

[Histonet] Nails

2010-11-20 Thread DianaRip1
The least complicated way to cut nails is to face the block, get a small
shallow dish and put in a few drops of Dawn dish soap and add a little warm
water. Just soak for about 10 minutes. Cut and place on a + slide and dry
slide well before staining.

[Histonet] Cassette Labeler

2010-09-16 Thread DianaRip1
I work in a small lab and process approx 150 cassettes a day. We
currently use a chemical resistant pen
that works great. We write the number on top and the patient initials on
the side. We are considering getting a cassette labeler. Is it really
worth the expense for 150 blocks a day? Is it possible to enter information
on the side of the cassette? Can you share some of your experience with
different ones with me.

[Histonet] accu-edge low profile microtome blades

2010-09-04 Thread DianaRip1
We've always used them too. They've always had oil on them. We just dip
them in alcohol and then xylene to take the coating off. I try to not
estimate more than I will use in a day. If you take the coating off and don't
cover them with a paper towel at night they will rust.

We throw ours in a pot with a little soap in the bottom and boil, unplug
