[Histonet] HSV1 and HSV2

2011-12-23 Thread Evans, Andria B
I am currently having issues with our HSV1 and HSV2 staining tissue components
that it shouldn't be/background. We are running Ventana Benchmark XTs and
Ultras. Using Dako's polyclonal rabbit concentrate. Does anyone out there in
histoland have a concentration with a protocol that works and looks clean?

Thank you for your help!

[Histonet] Neutralizing Formalin

2011-04-21 Thread Evans, Andria B
Is anyone out there in Histoland Neutralizing their formalin before discarding
it down the drain? We are looking into doing this because of our water
authorities and we are finding that it is very costly. Has anyone found a
cost efficient way to do this? I would need to know what supplier you are
purchasing it from and the name of the product. Thank you in advance!!

[Histonet] Biopsy program for Sakura VIP 5/6 Processor

2011-04-12 Thread Evans, Andria B
Our lab is currently looking for a way to shorten our Biopsy processing program
without compromising the patient specimen. We do have an issue with our GI's
being very dry, which causes us to have to soak between each level taken and
also causes a lot of chatter. Also we have a goal to do a run during the day
to improve turn around time. Here is what our current protocol is

Formalin1 min 37degrees
Formalin15 mins37degrees
70 14 mins40 degrees
95 14 mins40 degrees
95 9 mins 40 degrees
100 9 mins 40 degrees
100 7 mins 40 degrees
100 4 mins 40 degrees
Xylene 23 minsno heat
Xylene 15 minsno heat
Paraffin 20 mins 60 degrees
Paraffin 18 mins 60 degrees
Paraffin 10 mins 60 degrees
Paraffin 0 mins 60 degrees

All the steps are set on a fast mix setting. All of our biopsy specimens are
put into sponges.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

[Histonet] Sticky paraffin

2010-01-26 Thread Evans, Andria B
We have been having some issues with sticky paraffin. We have tried all
different kinds or paraffin and have come to the conclusion that it isn't the
paraffin, but i'm thinking it might be another factor causing this. This does
not happen everyday, but sporadic. Does anyone have any suggestions on
something we can do to reduce the stickiness?
