[Histonet] : Re: HE Stainer Question

2015-05-12 Thread Kathy.Machado
We just got rid of our Leica XL. It was not working right after about 10
years, little things started going wrong. And then it just quit reading the
white clip that we used for counterstaining IHC. The cost for someone to come
to the lab to fix it was ridiculous. The customer service from Leica was not
the best.
We now have a Gemini from Thermo and love it. It has two ovens and stains
similar to the Leica. So far we have not had any problems and we LOVE our
Thermo/Fisher reps. They have been wonderful.

[Histonet] small lab fte's

2015-01-30 Thread Kathy.Machado
Dianna, I also work in a small lab, with three histotechs. The hours are 5:00
am to 5:00 pm. We need three people to cover these hours. That is how we
justify it. Hope this helps.

[Histonet] G.I. biopsies and special stains

2014-06-09 Thread Kathy.Machado
I was wondering if other labs are automatically ordering special stains
and/or IHC on stomach biopsies and esophageal biopsies? Or do you wait until
HE is screened? Thanks!

[Histonet] re: Documenting special stain control blocks

2014-06-09 Thread Kathy.Machado

I made up a form for the special stain/IHC controls for this that lists
antibody/special stain, type of tissue, Case #, and date put in use. The
pathologist looks at one stained slide, which is kept with the controls, and
signs off on form. I hope this works!!!

I use my old racks from the Dako Autostainer! They hold the Dako vials nicely
and some of the smaller ones!

[Histonet] HE stainer

2013-11-11 Thread Kathy.Machado
I have a Leica autostainer that is capable of several different programs,
including dehydrating/rehydrating. I use it to counterstain my IHC so the
hematoxylin does not mess up my IHC stainer. I like this stainer because it is
easy to use and maintain.

[Histonet] Leica vs Ventana

2013-11-11 Thread Kathy.Machado

Hi Mehndi. I hope this is still useful information. I wanted to let you know
that I am a faithful Ventana user. I have been using strictly Ventana IHC
stainers for several years now. Currently we have two Ultras. They are very
user friendly and the tech support is awesome. We looked into a Bond before
switching from DAKO and found the Ventana is much easier to understand as far
as the constant feed goes. Both of the Ultras run all day long and I am able to
put on and take off slides easily. Hope this helps! If you have further
questions please feel free to contact me.
