[Histonet] Slide Mates and Cassette printers

2010-11-15 Thread Rick . Garnhart

We have three of the older six hopper Thermo Micro cassette writers and one
Thermo slide mate, in addition to four of the Pslims. The Pslims are the
first generation Slide Mate by Accuplace. They are all connected to our APLIS
System (PowerPath) and we use 2D bar-codes on our specimen labels,
cassettes and slides.

We do not produce a cassette or slide without wanding a bar-code.

The printed specimen bar codes that generate the cassettes and bar-coded
cassettes that generate the slides for positive patient identification, out
weighs the manual human method is well worth the effort. This is where all
histology lab should be moving towards.

We have some little network issue with them, but for the most part they print
great. The cassette printers work well. Remember these are mechanical
and computer driven, so they will fail at times.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

[Histonet] Grossing Room Staffing

2010-03-22 Thread Rick . Garnhart

I need help in convincing my Pathology group that it is old school to have a
aid or tech in the gross room to hand them specimen and put lids on
cassettes and close them. We have a PA that is employed by the pathology group
that wants help in putting lids on and closing cassette. We use the
Thermo-Cassette printer in the gross room and print cassettes from a bar-coded
label on the container. No cassettes are preprinted and placed on the
specimen container lids. Any help is greatly appreciated.

[Histonet] re: Pslims

2009-07-30 Thread Rick . Garnhart

We have 5 Pslims from Accuplace, one at each of our cutting stations. We are
interface with PowerPath with AMP. We do struggle with 2 of them but it
usually comes down to a network issue. We have worked extensively with
Accuplace and have made great progress with resolving our issues. Let it be
said that they are still issues. We are 2D bar-coded through out our system,
specimen containers, cassettes and slides. We produce no cassettes or
slides until they are ready to be used. We have eliminated placing tissue in
the wrong numbered cassettes and picking up tissue on the wrong slide,
100% positive patient identification. We wand the cassette and as we are
cutting our section the Pslim is printing our slide. Our Pslims work between
90-100% of the time, none of our cutters have to wait for the slide printer to
finish to pick up the section. The slides are waiting for us to use
them. We are producing between 450 and 600 slides every morning between 0600
and 0830. I would not go back to mass producing slides either hand
written or printed by a large slide printer. Individual slide printing at each
cutting station should be the wave of the future. If any one would like
to speak directly with me please feel free to call after 1000 Mountain time M-F.

[Histonet] Grossing

2009-03-17 Thread Rick . Garnhart

CAP is OK with their guidelines ( BUT is CLIA on line with the
Processing (Low Complexity?) vs Grossing (High Complexity?). If CLIA is not on
board with processing (dumb naming) being low complexity and grossing being
higher complexity your lab may be in violation of CLIA Guidelines.
