[Histonet] Controls with patient specimen on same slide

2011-07-20 Thread SHargrove
In our Lab we put a control on every slide. We keep multiple controls cut
and stored in refrigerator. Most are multi- tissue controls. We use the
Ventana detection kits and it is not cost efficient to use 2 uses of the
detection kit per antibody. Of course there are times that this will not
work, then our cost per test goes up, but we cannot charge any more for a
control.

[Histonet] ER/PR reporting with disclaimer on Ventana Ultra vs.XT

2010-11-17 Thread SHargrove

We are replacing out Ventana XT with an Ultra. We are currently running our
ER's and Pr's on our Ventana XT. The tech doing the Immuno's told me she
cannot do them on the Ultra because it has not been approved yet. We
currently are not using a disclaimer on the Er/Pr reports because these
have been validated on the Ultra but not the XT. The Path's only report
positive vs.negative but I do not understand the disclaimer use I see on
other reports. She is either not communicating well with me or is confused.
Either way she has me confused. Can anyone help? And does anyone need an
extra machine? We don't have room for 2.

[Histonet] Nail Problems /Equipment

2010-08-16 Thread SHargrove
I am replying to both posts, getting the section of the nail used to be
the toughest thing to do,now that I use the Sodium Hydroxide soak it seems
that I have less problems keeping the sections on. To help that issue,
after cutting and drying in the oven for 10 minutes, I put the slide in a
Coplin jar with about 1cc of formaldehyde.Put the lid on loosely . Leave
this in the oven 1-2- ours and then stain. About the instruments , we have
a Ventana Benchmark XT. It works fine , we just upgraded to the Ultra for
continuous load and do not have room for both in the Lab. We do still use
it for routine IHC, and was last serviced in February this year.

[Histonet] Haunted Cryostat

2010-03-31 Thread SHargrove
We had the exact same problem that just started out of no where. One night
I came in really late to do a post and went through a department that
backed up to ours. Floor care was in there stripping the floors. The
cryostat was off again when I went in the room. The next day we used that
plug for our heat gun and flipped the cryostat off. They did not always
use that plug, just had started after a desk had been moved. When they
tripped the breaker they would reset it , but our machine had to be turned
back on every time. We had a new plug installed that day. It would be nice
if it was that simple for you.
