Hi Lisa,

I am not aware of a specific CAP regulation/question related to the validation
of the ThinPrep processor. However, there are general questions related to
ensuring your devices are functioning as intended prior to using them on
patient specimens. This should have been done when the device was initially
setup in the lab and with the help of the manufacturer. They should help you
verify that the instrument is working as designed.

RE: [Histonet] cytology control slides?

2012-06-13 Thread Yang, Mari
I don't think there is a requirement for control slides for Cytology, only when
IHCs and special stains are required. CAP requires a mechanism for monitoring
cross-contamination. For urine cytology, I would insert a blank slide with your
staining rack, if you are batch staining to ensure there are no floaters or
cross contamination. Have the cytotech review the blank slide. The cytotech
should also be monitoring the stain quality daily. Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Mari

Hello all. During an inspection yesterday, the inspector made a brief, vague
reference to cytology staining now being deemed "high complexity". Does
anyone have information and/or a reference for this?
I'd appreciate any information anyone could provide.
Thanks a bunch.
