Hi Everyone! Our small core is looking into getting a coverslipper and I was wondering the following things: 1) Which company did you get yours from? 2) Is there a difference between glass vs. plastic? (thinking of allowing people who do IHC/IMF to use it too) 3) What are the pros and cons of your machine? The world of coverslippers is huge and I'm just getting into the automation---FINALLY!! Would love to hear from the experienced! Thanks so much for all of your help in advance! I truly appreciate it! Jen Jennifer K. RE: [Histonet] coverslippers
We have the tape coverslipper from Sakura and have had it for years we love it. Yo need to make sure when you change the tape that it is allowed to sit out of the package for a little while. We put one on the machine and open a new one and let it sit out- but I think overnight is fine. It's very low maintenance. I didn't get very many response to this, so I will post again. Perhaps not many have used this coverslipper? I am not sure of how well it sold when SP distributed it? Patsy I am in the process of helping to set up a new histology lab and we want to get a stand alone glass coverslipper. I know that this is one piece of equipment that can be really finicky. SurgiPath used to market a small glass coverslipper which has now been bought by Dako. Are there any of you out there that use or used this coverslipper when SuriPath sold it? I am wondering how this coverslipper performed in the field? I use the Sakura Tissue Tek Glas and love it. Low maintenance, easy to clean and simple to program. From what I understand if you have a high production of slides glass may be too slow . Regarding glass vs. film: FILM: faster and slides can be filed immediately; after YEARS the film may become loose, but only if it was placed with less than needed xylene. GLASS: better for photomicrography IF you use apochromat high power dry objective and glass remains better in the long time. They have a higher failure rate (more interruptions in the work flow). Sometimes slides need to wait flat for days before being filed. I personally prefer film, the net result outweigts its drawbacks.
