Re: [Histonet] Histo arcania ... Reticulum vs Reticulin

There is only a semantics difference. Reticulum is a connective mesh holding
together some organs components such as liver, spleen, lymph nodes and bone
marrow. In the German literature is called glitterfassern and many silver
stains, such as Gomori, are specific for it.
Reticulin is used either to refer to the holding mesh or to the stain,
especially when dealing with bone marrow specimens.

Oh Great Histonet, how do you describe the difference, if any, between the
terms reticulum and reticulin.

Here is a bit more on the terms

this article gives some background on Reticulin vs Reticulum

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reticular_fiber

Briefly, Reticulin refers specifically to collagen III. Reticulum is an old
term that referred to generalized staining of reticular fibers and at that
time they had no idea of the varieties of collagen. Since the silver stain has
been shown to be non-specific the term Reticulum may be more correct for the
generalized staining.

Reticulin is a type of fiber in connective tissue composed of type III collage
secreted by reticular cells.

Reticulum pertains to the endoplasmic reticulum, the second chamber of the
alimentary canal of a ruminant animal, or (less frequent) the plural of
reticular cell.
